Worried about your father in the hospital?
Any time a parent is in the hospital, it can be a situation filled with worry and anxiety. One of the best things you can do is pray about it. You may not know what to say or how to go about it, but that’s okay. Sometimes emotions can get the better of us and leave us without the words we need or want.

Dear God, I need to lift my father to you in this prayer. My dad is in the hospital and I am worried about the whole situation. I know he’s getting good care and all of that, but I am struggling with seeing him in a hospital bed. I pray for his health and for his complete recovery. I want him to be able to come home soon. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Lord God, my father is in the hospital for a scheduled surgery. I come to You in prayer, asking all of the healing You have to be placed upon his body.
I pray for the nurses and surgeon, for them to be attentive to everything going on in during the surgery. I pray for the anesthesiologist to be able to focus on keeping my dad in good shape throughout the operation. I pray for the pre-op folks to keep my father calm.
I pray for all of us who will be waiting for him to get out of the surgery, for us to trust You for his care. I am grateful that dad’s doctor caught the problem and got him scheduled quickly. I know that You are caring for my father throughout this whole process. I give you praise and thanks through Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer For Father In Hospital Because of Illness
I don’t know what is happening with my dad, Lord, but he’s been taken to the hospital earlier today with some type of illness that has brought him low. I am very anxious because I don’t have real solid information.
I am trusting that the doctors and nurses at the hospital are diagnosing dad as best as they can. I pray for You to give them wisdom and insight into what has made him so sick. He’s always been healthy so this sudden illness is disturbing. I am praying to You because I don’t know what else to do.
I just need calmness Lord. I want my father to be okay in the midst of all of this. Please help us to get the answers we need so my dad can recover from whatever this is. I pray this in trust and belief in the strong name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For Father In Hospital After a Car Accident
I am pleading with You, Lord God, to make sure my father is alive. I just got a call that he was in a car accident and has been rushed to the hospital. I am on my way there and I know You will hear my prayer, even as I am driving.
I pray he is not injured too badly that he can’t recover. I pray that any broken bones can be healed. I pray for him not to have any injury to his brain that will debilitate him. I pray for the EMTs who are caring for him in the ambulance. I pray for the ER doctors and nurses who will treat him quickly.
I don’t want my dad to die, Lord, and right now I am filled with fear and I can’t think properly. Help me to calm down so I can process whatever information I will get once I arrive at the hospital. Help my dad to survive. I pray this in the strong name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer For Father In Hospital With a Coma
Dear Father God, I come to You in prayer once again. My father, who has been sick, has now fallen into a coma and is in the hospital. I can only see him and talk to him for very limited windows of time.
I don’t know what to do but to talk to him, trusting that he can hear me. I keep telling him encouraging things when I can. I don’t know how all of this will turn out. The doctors are quite cautious in what they tell me, which I understand, but I’d like to know more than I do.
I can’t even grasp that my dad won’t come out of this coma. I’m not ready for him to go. I don’t want him to die. I don’t want him to be permanently brain-damaged as a result of all this. I’m not prepared emotionally or mentally to think about long-term care and so forth.
I just want my father to be awake and be able to talk with him again. Please hear my prayer, Lord, and heal my dad and bring him out of this coma. I ask this through Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer For Father In Hospital With Heart Problems
Lord, I am having a hard time not being angry with my father right now. He’s been taken to the hospital for heart pain and likely has serious heart problems.
I have told him repeatedly that the way he eats is bad for him. Plus, he never really moves around much and now he’s causing us all a lot of stress because he hasn’t taken care of himself. I guess my role as a child has now shifted to being the parent to my dad. I’m not ready for this.
I ask You to bring him through this and get his attention. May he recover and may he understand that he came close to a major health situation. Please get through to him, Lord, through this whole experience. I ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Final Thoughts
As your parents get older, their health begins to take on more focus for you. With your father, this is a man who typically has been strong and vibrant. You can easily think that he will be around and never get sick.
So, when your father ends up in the hospital for whatever reason, it can be jarring. You want him to get the best care and for him to recover quickly. As you pray about this, you can invite the Spirit to bring calmness and peace to your heart and mind.
This situation can also be an opportunity to begin thinking about yourself and your changing relationship with your father. As an adult child, your interactions may shift now, as your father may require more attention from you and others in your family. This may be a difficult time for you and your father, but if you are aware of this dynamic, it can be easier to navigate.
Take encouragement from the prophet Jeremiah, as he reminds us all that God’s plan and His will are over everything. Continue to trust in God for your father’s healing.
“But I will restore you to health
and heal your wounds,’
declares the Lord” ( Jeremiah 30.17, NIV).
How God will restore your dad to health or heal his wounds may not be clearly seen or even know in the moment. Praying on a regular basis about your father being in the hospital puts you in close and consistent contact with God and that reality alone can bring you needed peace.
