When my mom went in for her annual mammogram this year I didn’t even think to pray for good results. I just assumed, like any other year, it would come back clear and life would go on. However, this year, they found a mass. She had an ultrasound and additional testing and was diagnosed with breast cancer. From now on, when I hear of anyone having a mammogram I will be praying for good results!
A mammogram can be a stressful experience because there is the looming thought of “Do I have cancer?!” My mom had no symptoms and felt no lump so even if all seems normal there is still a chance an annual mammogram could come back with devastating news. Luckily, when we are struggling with fear and anxiety over an upcoming event we can turn to Scripture for comforting words.
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4, NIV). You can always take comfort that the Lord is always present with you. You can walk into your mammogram with peace knowing He is there to carry you and walk with you on whatever journey lies ahead.

My God, I have a mammogram today. There are a lot of unknowns that come with this test. I know it’ll be a quick procedure, but I can’t help, but worry something might come back abnormal. Prayer Before the Mammogram
Lord, I have a mammogram later today. I am nervous. Most likely everything will come back clear, but 1 in 8 women get breast cancer so there is still a decent chance it could come back with an abnormality.
Thank you for modern medicine that allows us to be proactive about cancer. Although I’m not looking forward to this procedure I am thankful that there are ways for us to catch cancer before it’s too late.
Please help the results today be good, but if they’re not please give me peace. You are my comfort and strength. I trust in You and know that it is all in Your hands. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer During the Mammogram
Dear God, this is the most uncomfortable experience. It’s rather embarrassing to have your breasts exposed and inspected by complete strangers even if they are medical professionals and completely used to it.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to catch breast cancer early if I have it, but I wish they could come up with a more comfortable procedure. This x-ray machine is bizarre and kind of scary. I know they need to flatten out the breast though to find tumors or other signs of breast cancer.
Help me to get over my petty worries. In this moment I just want to be aware of your presence. I know you are here with me. Help me to just focus on You and not the discomfort. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer After the Mammogram
Praise God from whom all blessings flow! Thank you for good mammogram results! I know You are a miracle worker so I knew if it was Your will that it would come back clear.
I can’t help but have a little bit of anxiety that even though this one was clear the one next year might not be. Please put these worries at bay as it makes no sense to worry about the things of next year!
Thank you for all the ways You showed up for me during this journey. Help me to use this life that you have given me for the purpose of building up your kingdom. May you bring comfort, peace, and healing to those who did not get good news like I did today. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for Mom to have a Good Mammogram
Lord, my mom is having a mammogram today. She has one each year just to be cautious and proactive. Even though it’s a routine check up it still makes me kind of nervous for her. It’s hard to stay calm though in a sea of unknowns.
Help me to confidently put my trust in you. Wrap your loving arms around my mom as she heads to her appointment today. I know she is not looking forward to it. In the garden of Gethsemane Jesus asked, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39, NIV). Help my mom to be comforted by these words, to know that even Jesus did things He didn’t want to do.
I pray mom has an opportunity to witness the faith to others at her appointment. May her trust in You attract others to You. May she be your face, hands and feet to the medical professionals today. I pray that there will be opportunities to talk about You and her hope in You.

Prayer for my Wife to Have a Good Mammogram
Lord, my wife is having a mammogram today. I know it’s a routine screening so there’s no need to panic. My mind automatically jumps to cancer though. (Name) is the love of my life and I don’t want to live a life without her. She is my person, a beautiful woman of faith who leads me closer to you. I want to live out all of my days with her and I’m scared if she has breast cancer it will rob us of that.
Help me to confidently put my trust in you. Wrap your loving arms around (name) as she goes to her appointment today. Help her to feel safe and loved by You. Please, give us good results from the mammogram!

Prayer for Medical Professionals Administering the Mammogram
Lord, I lift up all medical professionals who are working to administer mammograms. This can not be an easy job so I thank you for those who have chosen this path. 1 in 8 women get breast cancer so I’m sure this is a job that comes with delivering bad news often.
For the medical professionals who are delivering bad news today, may their words be soft, comforting, and loving. It’s very challenging to have a doctor who has poor bedside manner so please help these doctors so that their patients can feel seen, heard, and cared for by their doctors and nurses.
Lord, give the doctors the wisdom and knowledge to read the mammograms accurately. They see and hear difficult things each day. Help them to know what they are doing is glorifying to You and building up the kingdom. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Concluding Thoughts
When you or someone you love is getting a mammogram it can come with feelings of uneasiness. It’s an uncomfortable procedure that can come with life changing news. The best thing to do is not panic until you need to. There’s no need to worry about if a tumor will appear on the results until the doctor tells you it’s there.
However, this is easier said than done! Ultimately, it’s an invitation to grow in holiness and trust in the Lord. The Scriptures tell us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV).
When we trust in His plan for our lives, life won’t be any easier, but it will be full a deeper sense of joy and peace which can only come from Him.
Thank you this helped me when I read Proverbs 3:5-6. I always refer to Proverbs as being the Book of Wisdom. So I believe God is speaking to me about all the wisdom He has taught me. I have to go for my 3rd breast exam tomorrow and I’ve been feeling a bit anxious. Now after reading the prayers you have written im going to put this anxiety on the foot of the cross. There isn’t anything I can do or change so I’m giving it to my Father the Almighty God.
