Are you looking for a prayer to pray as you go on an airplane flight? Do you need to pray before you fly?
There are a dozen encouraging prayers here for you to choose from and use as you see fit. You can easily alter the wording to suit your specific circumstances, of course. If you don’t see your situation represented, then you can use one of the prayers as a starting point to pray for what you need.
“But those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint”( Isaiah 40.31, NIV).
Whatever your reason for praying as you fly, know that God hears you. Many people have some nervousness about flying and bringing scripture and prayer together can be helpful to you and fill your heart with God’s peace.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4.6, NIV).
May these prayers help you in your relationship with God, growing it, deepening it, and increasing your trust and faith in the Redeemer of your soul.
Short Prayer Before A Flight
Dear God, I am praying to you before this plane leaves the gate and heads out to the runway to take off. I’ve flown before but I am always nervous inside a plane. I don’t want to be, but here I am, and that’s what I’m feeling.
I pray you will help me stay calm as we take off. I pray that you will remind me of all of the times I’ve flown and everything has been fine. Help me to think of how safe I am in your presence right now. I’m doing better than in the past, but I still ask for your calming Spirit to fill me and surround me.
I pray all of this in the strong and mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer During A Flight
Lord, we are experiencing some turbulence that is making me nauseous. This isn’t some light bumpiness, this is a serious storm they are trying to fly around. But we still have caught some of the storm and we are bouncing up and down it feels like.
I pray for our safety and for the pilot’s skill. I pray for us to make it through this unharmed and reach clear skies soon. I pray we all recover before we land in an hour or so. I thank you for where I am sitting and for the strength of this plane.
I lift this prayer for peace and safety in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer After A Flight
Thank you Lord, we have landed! That was the longest flight I’ve been on and I am ready to get off of this plane. I am grateful I do not have a connecting flight to make and can relax a bit before I go to my final destination in this city.
I am grateful to have had plenty of legroom on this flight so my legs are not cramped. I am also grateful it was not a full flight. Thank you for getting us all here safely and for there being no delays to us getting to our gate on time. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Prayer Before Heading To The Airport
Dear Father God, I am about to drive to the airport and I don’t want there to be any delays. I’m leaving in plenty of time, but I can never tell what will happen in traffic, even with all of these traffic apps on my phone. I just want to get to the airport in good time and without any hassle.
I pray that I can find good parking. I am thankful it is not raining today and not bad weather. Thank you that I have a car I can drive myself. I don’t have to depend on someone else to get me there and I don’t have to be a burden to them. Keep my home safe while I am away and guide me to where I am going in safety. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For The Pilot
Lord God, I want to pray for our pilot and co-pilot on this flight. While it is not too long of a flight, we are going to have to fly through, or around some rough weather to get to our destination. I pray for them to be alert and on focus. I pray that all of their pre-flight checks went well and they are ready to for this trip.
I pray for their health and eyesight. I pray that you enable them to keep calm as they deal with the weather conditions they will encounter. I also pray you surround them with peace as they carry the burden of all of these people on board in their hands as they pilot the plane.
In the name of Jesus I pray for all of this, Amen.
Prayer For The Flight Attendants
Lord, I give you thanks for the flight attendants on this plane right now. They injected a bit of humor and levity into the day and for that I am grateful. I also am grateful for how they all handled a difficult passenger and de-escalated the situation professionally and without any further incident.
May you bless them each with needed rest and renewal in their downtime between flights. Be near to their families if they have them, and keep them safe throughout this day. Thank you for their commitment to their job and to the passengers on this plane. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For My Fellow Passengers
Lord, I just want to lift a prayer for all of my fellow passengers. I don’t know who they are personally, just that we are all headed to the city on this flight. I imagine some are flying for business purposes, so I pray they have success.
Others may be flying to meet up with friends or family, so for them, I pray for love and harmony in their relationships. Still, others may be flying for vacation or to get away from where they are. I pray for them to experience peace and relaxation on their trip. May you keep all of us safe on this flight, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer To Make Flight Connection
Dear God, I pray that I can make my flight connection so I can get to where I need to go. This current flight was delayed and that ate into my layover time in the connecting city. It’s going to be very tight, so I pray that the gate we come into is not too far away from my other gate.
I really cannot afford to miss my next plane, Lord. I ask that you help this plane get to the city even just a few minutes faster. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Prayer To Not Have Lost Luggage
God, I wish I had not checked some of my baggage. I have my carry-on bag so I’ll be okay for a day or two, but I really do not want to have to deal with lost luggage on my vacation. It’s another headache and hassle that will erode the very reason I’m going on this vacation–to rest and relax!
Please help the baggage handlers not to make an error. Help all of our luggage get to the city where we are flying. This seems like such an odd request, but I know you hear all of my prayers, through Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer By An Airline Pilot
Lord God, I pray for everyone on this plane, from the flight crew to the passengers. I ask that you keep me alert and on point as I fly this massive plane. I pray we arrive at our destination in complete safety and that this flight be very uneventful.
I cannot handle the burden of all these people’s safety under my own strength so I pray for you to be my strength and guide. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer By A Flight Attendant
Dear God, I pray for each passenger I will encounter today on all of my flights. May I be the face and voice of caring in their day. I don’t know what each person is carrying onto the plane in their emotions and thoughts, but pray I can be a calm oasis of peace and trust for them.
I pray that whatever I encounter, you give me the strength to handle it. I pray for my physical health, that I do not catch any bug or virus while flying so I can be at my best. And, when I am off, I pray for rest and renewal. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Prayer For The Tarmac Crew
Dear God, I am watching out my window at the tarmac crew and what they are having to deal with in all of this nasty weather. I pray that you keep them safe as they do their jobs. I pray that they do not get sick from being out in the cold and wet today. Guide them in all they do and thank you for the work they do to help get us to where we are going.
In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Concluding Thoughts
If we are on the ground or in the air on a plane, there is nowhere we go that God is not present with us. It is a comfort to be able to pray to God about anything, including being on an airplane, as a passenger or as part of the flight crew.
“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”(Isaiah 41.10, NIV).
Having flown all around the world, I can bear witness to the wonder that comes with flying. I can also bear witness to the nerves that arise in flight, whether it’s due to bad weather, or a delayed flight. But it still remains a great way to get from one place to another.
“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.” ―
As you pray about flying, or before you fly on an airplane, let the words of Jesus be a balm to your spirit. Keep believing in the One who saved you and guides you.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me” (John 14.1, NIV).
