7 Caring Prayers For Hair Stylists and Barbers

Do you want to pray for your hairstylist?  Are you a barber or hair stylist and want to pray for your clients?

These seven caring prayers can be used by a client praying for the person taking care of their hair, or by the person doing the styling and cutting of hair.  You are encouraged to modify any of the prayers to fit your situation more specifically.  Consider these prayers a starting point.

The most recent statistics reveal there just under 13,000 barbers in America, yet nearly 200,000  licensed cosmetologists (also known as hair stylists).  Unless you are bald, or somehow cut your own hair, chances are high that you will have your hair cut by a stylist or barber several times a year.

Have you ever considered praying for the person who takes care of your hair?  You likely talk to them about things in your life, but have you asked about how things are going for them?

If you are a barber or hair stylist, you likely form long-term customer relationships with people as you see them on a regular basis.  Perhaps you can pray a silent prayer for them as you cut or color, trim, or blow dry their hair.

Although the Bible does make one reference to a woman’s hair being her glory,  there’s not too many other references to a person’s hair, in regards to beauty or appearance.  We do see mentions like this:

Gray hair is a crown of splendor;
it is attained in the way of righteousness” (Proverbs 16.31, NIV).

or even like this:

His head is purest gold;
    his hair is wavy
and black as a raven” (Song of Songs 5.11, NIV).

It’s enough to know that, generally speaking, we care about our hair a great deal.  Perhaps, as we introduce prayer into the situation, we can begin to care about those who make our hair look good, too!

Prayer For My Hair Stylist

Dear God, I pray for my hair stylist (stylist’s name).  I am thankful to have found her because she takes such great care of my hair and always cuts it in the most flattering way for me.  I look better because of her skill.

I pray for her finances as I know she’s struggling a bit.  I try to send her referrals as much as I can because she is so talented.  I pray for her strength each day and for you to provide for her needs through Christ Jesus.

Keep her safe as she travels back and forth and give her renewing rest each night. I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For My Barber

Dear Lord, I want to come to you and ask you to help my barber, (barber’s name).  He’s been cutting my hair for decades now and he mentioned he’s not sure how long he can keep doing it.  I was surprised to hear that as he seems to enjoy what he’s doing and appears to be in okay health.

I pray for you to give him clear thinking as he ponders his situation and his future.  Grant him clarity of guidance and direction as he considers his next steps.  I pray for his financial provision now and into the future.  I pray for his current customers to continue to come in and be loyal.  I pray all of this in the strong name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer By A Hair Stylist

Lord Jesus, I pray for my clients today.  It’s a full schedule and I am thankful to you for that, as that means the money is flowing and I can pay my bills.

But more than the financial provision, Lord, I pray for each person I touch, literally touch today.  I want to be attentive to them and listen to them, as I know for several of my clients, I may be the only person they talk to all week about anything serious.  Let your love and grace flow through me to them so they depart in peace and feeling better about themselves.

I am grateful to have this profession, where I can care for people through something as simple as cutting and styling their hair.  I enjoy helping them look their best.  I pray to you and give you thanks, O God my Father, Amen.

Prayer By A Barber

God in heaven, I need your help so I’m coming to you in prayer.  Several of my longtime customers have died recently and there hasn’t been an influx of new customers to take their place.   I run on pretty tight margins so this is hitting me financially.

This is all I know how to do, and all I’ve ever done for a real job.  I pray for new customers. I pray for guidance in how to get new people in here.  I guess I can let my current customers know what’s happening and maybe that will spur some good ideas as well.

I enjoy what I do, Lord, and I’d like to be able to keep on doing it as long as I am able.  Please help me find a solution to this situation. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer By An Owner of a Hair Salon

Dear Father in heaven, I enter into prayer with you now about the hair salon I own.  One of the stylists had to leave and now there’s an empty chair.  This is a concern because the longer I don’t have a replacement, the more income I lose.

I am so thankful to even have this shop, and even more grateful for the mix of stylists I have here.  They all get along with each other and that type of kind culture is very important to me.  I can’t just have anybody in that spot–they need to be a good fit with everyone.

Please help guide the right person to me, and please help me to recognize who that person is when they come.  I need clarity and direction, Lord.  I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer By An Owner of a Barbershop

Lord God, I am coming to the end of my career as a barber and finally a barbershop owner.  It’s been a wonderful career journey but it’s time for me to retire.

I pray to you to find a worthy buyer of this barbershop.  I don’t mean just buy the building space that I own, but to buy the actual business and continue to serve my customers, some of whom have come to this shop for years and years.

It seems barbershops are going out of style but I pray for the right person to recognize how special this place is and its value.  I have some time for this all to take shape, but I’d like to not have this process drag on and on.  Please help me find the appropriate buyer, and give me strength each day to continue to serve.  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer For An Instructor of Cosmetology

Lord God, I pray for my instructor today.  She seems to have a lot of things going on with her outside of the classroom.  She’s a great instructor and I’ve learned a lot about my new profession from her.

But she gets distracted easily these past few days and is always checking her phone.  I pray that whatever situation has grabbed her attention doesn’t swallow her up.  We really do need her here–fully here and attentive to what we are learning.

I pray her situation be resolved quickly and peacefully.  I pray that she and her family are safe and healthy.  I lift this prayer for her in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Final Thoughts

Perhaps the most famous instance of a haircut in the Bible is the story of Samson. He lost his strength when his hair was cut.

Thankfully, we are not in that kind of situation, but we do need to have our hair trimmed or styled on a fairly regular basis.  And for that, we need a barber or a hairstylist.  Even Jesus recognized that the hair on your head is of importance to God:

And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matthew 10.30, NIV).

It makes sense then, doesn’t it, to pray for the person who handles your hair, cuts it, or colors it, or washes it, or styles it?  Your relationship with the person who cares for your hair is a personal one, even an intimate one (in an appropriate way).  Do you realize how much your barber or hair stylists touches your hair and your head during an appointment?

Who else touches your head that much?  Probably no one but your spouse if you’re married.  You likely don’t let anyone else touch your head at all.  It’s a good idea to start praying for this person who has such a close contact with you.

If you are a stylist or barber, you interact with numerous people each week in this intimate fashion, so it’s a good idea to pray for them as well, wouldn’t you agree?

May you (and your hair) be in good hands as your move forward in prayer and trust in God.
