Getting a liver cancer diagnosis is extremely devastating. Cancer is a vicious disease. Luckily, as Christians, we can take comfort in knowing that we are not alone in this fight. The Lord is our strength, walking with us each step of the way. You also can take comfort in knowing that other believers are praying for those with liver cancer!
My grandma and grandpa both passed away from liver cancer so I know the destruction this disease can put on a family. The Song of Moses and Miriam is one of the most beautiful passages we can cling to during a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
“The Lord is my strength and my defense;
he has become my salvation.
He is my God, and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
The Lord is a warrior;
the Lord is his name (Exodus 15:2-4, NIV).
The Lord will fight with you through your cancer. He is your strength as you undergo surgery and/or treatment. He will be strong when you are weak. Even when it’s hard, we must continue to praise Him because He has given us everything.
I have given you 7 prayers for liver surgery, but feel free to customize them to your specific situation. Please leave prayer requests in the comments so we can pray with you!
Short Prayer for Liver Cancer
My God, I have liver cancer. There’s a lot of unknown that comes with this diagnosis. I am worried about the sacrifices I will have to make and the things I may have to miss out on because of my treatment. I ask that if it is your will that you heal me completely and I use this time as an opportunity to grow as a disciple and glorify You, In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for a Parent With Liver Cancer
Lord, my (dad/mom) mom has liver cancer. This seems like some strange alternate reality that I’m living in. Cancer is something that you hear about people having not my (dad/mom). The statistics long term are not good. Help me to put the numbers aside and just trust in You and Your will, which I know may not be what I want.
Help me to confidently put my trust in you. Wrap your loving arms around my (dad/mom) as (he/she) comes to terms with (his/her) diagnosis and treatment. Help (him/her) to feel safe and loved by You during this difficult time.
The treatments can be difficult and painful so please give (him/her) the strength to endure this difficult cross. Help (dad/mom) to look to Your Son as an example of bearing suffering. In the garden of Gethsemane Jesus asked, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39, NIV). Help (dad/mom) to be comforted by these words, to know that even Jesus did things He didn’t want to do.
Please guide the doctors as they come up with a treatment plan. May they have wisdom and know what is best for (his/her) body. Please heal (him/her) O God. I don’t want to know a life without my (dad/mom), at least not for a long time.
I surrender my feelings of anxiety and fear and ask that you replace them with hope and joy. It’s all in your hands. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for Liver Cancer Surgery
Lord, I need to have surgery to help me battle this liver cancer. I am so nervous that there will be complications.
This is a really big surgery and there are plenty of ways this could go awry. Help me to surrender my fears and worries to you. I lay them at the foot of the cross. I feel like I can’t handle the stress of this so I know I must cast my burdens onto you because I cannot handle this alone.
God, please give the doctors wisdom as they perform this surgery. I know they have done this before and will do the best they can to make this surgery a success. Please bless their hands so they can work quickly and accurately.
Please help this to be just a routine surgery and to go smoothly. Help me to be calm and courageous. May I cling to the words from the Scriptures, “Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord” (Psalm 31:24, NIV).
If something goes wrong during the surgery, please give the doctors wisdom to know how to handle it. Lord, I trust in you. Amen.
Prayer for Liver Cancer Treatment
Lord, please be my rock during these liver cancer treatments. These will be very difficult and I know I can’t do this alone. My best chance for long term survival is a liver transplant. Until then, I have to undergo these treatments.
Please give me the strength and courage I need to get through the treatments. They are only a small sliver of the pain your Son went through so that I could live my life freely. Help me to unite my sufferings to the cross. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for a Spouse With Liver Cancer

Help me to be what (name) needs during this time. Help me to be supportive and have the right words to say to encourage (him/her) to fight. May I be strong when (name) is weak. Thank you for this opportunity to live out my vows of in sickness and in health. I strive to love like You, sacrificially.

Prayer for Medical Professionals Working on Liver Cancer
Lord, I lift up all medical professionals who are working with liver cancer. This cannot be an easy job and so I thank you for those who have chosen this path. I pray for the medical professionals who are performing surgeries today, may you guide their hands.
For the medical professionals who are delivering bad news today, may their words be soft, comforting, and loving. It’s very challenging to have a doctor who has poor bedside manners so please help these doctors so that their patients can feel seen, heard, and cared for by their doctors and nurses.
Lord, give the doctors the wisdom and knowledge for coming up with treatment plans for their patients. Give them confidence as they work towards saving more lives. Protect their hearts and minds so that they may not listen to the evil one. They see and hear difficult things each day. Help them to know what they are doing is glorifying You and building up the kingdom. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for Liver Cancer Survivors
Praise God from whom all blessings flow! Thank you for curing this cancer! I know You are a miracle worker so I knew if it was Your will that You would heal me.
I can’t help but have a little bit of anxiety that cancer might come back. Please put these worries at bay and continue to be cancer free for the rest of my days! You helped me to not have to suffer through this alone. I know you were walking with me every step of the way.
Thank you for all the ways You showed up for me during this journey. Help me to use this life that you have allowed me to keep living for the purpose of building up your kingdom. May my story and experience be helpful to others who are going through liver cancer and a witness to others of your healing power. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Concluding Thoughts
When you or someone you love has liver cancer it can bring to life challenging emotions. When you first learn the results of your biopsy or other diagnostics you might be afraid or overwhelmed. The enemy wants us to wallow in those emotions, but God invites us to rest in His protection.
The Lord is a warrior. He will be your strength and hope. Our prayers aren’t always answered the way we want them to be, but we can always look to the everlasting joy we will experience with Him in heaven. May your journey, or that of your loved one, be a witness of the Lord’s strength and love!
