Politics have always been a sensitive topic. There seems to be no one way to make everyone happy, and there is no one who knows that better than government employees.
With such a stressful job, it is comforting to find God’s purpose for the government. In the Bible, God teaches us that he is in control of all authority.
Romans 13:1 reads, “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”
Try to remember that God is here for all of us. It does not matter the level of your employment; your job was established by God. He has guided you in your position to do the best you can do for your community. I hope that everything you have established and will establish in the future, will be through God’s will. Please know there are many people out there praying for you, in all the chaos of today.
These prayers were written to try and cover as many elected politicians government employees as possible. You are welcome to modify the prayers for the specific elected official for whom you are praying. Short Prayer for the President
Dear God, I pray for the President of my country. May (he/she) seek you for guidance and wisdom to govern and lead this country well. I pray the President seeks what is best for the country, not merely their own political party.
May they lead with integrity, make decisions with compassion, and govern with humility. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for Senator or Representative
Lord Jesus, our elected federal officials in Congress have to make a lot of decisions that affect hundreds of millions of citizens. I pray that each Senator and Representative seek to serve in an honorable way while they are in office.
I ask that you humble them as they realize the massive responsibility they carry as they write and vote on legislation. I pray that you instill in them a desire for prioritizing people over party. I ask these things in the name of the Jesus, Amen.
Prayer for Governor
I lift our Governor up to you in prayer, Lord. She is midway through her term and has faced many challenges lately. I pray you give her strength each day to lead the people of this state. Give her favor in her relationship with the state legislature as they bring economic development here.
I ask that you surround our Governor with wise advisors and grant her insight and discernment as she seeks to handle major issues facing this state and its people. I pray this prayer in the name of the Wise One, Lord Jesus, Amen.
Prayer for Mayor
Father in heaven, I pray for the Mayor of the city. She’s got so many things on her plate right now. Between the schools, transportation problems, and crime, it seems like she does nothing but handle crisis after crisis.
I ask for her to get the support she needs from the city council and local businesses so she can lead us through this rough time in our city, and into a bright future. Protect her and give her poise in the face of criticism. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer for State Legislator
Lord, there are so many people in our state legislature, I can’t keep everyone straight! So, I pray for them all right now. They are trying to represent their local city or region in the state the best they can. So guide them each with your wisdom each day.
I pray they will work together and cross party lines in order to work for the good of the whole state, for the benefit of all the citizens who live and work here. They have a tough job, but one they signed up for and were elected to do. So, I ask that you give them determination and understanding as they serve. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Prayer for County Commissioner
Father in heaven, our county is not in the metro area so we don’t have the resources like some other counties. I pray for our county commissioners, as they seek to make a budget when the tax base is fairly low.
They face more needs than there is money to handle. They have to make difficult choices as to what gets priority now and what has to wait until next year. I pray they can work together to bring new businesses into the county for jobs and income. I pray you help each one to see the bigger picture beyond their personal agendas.
I pray all these things in the name of the Prince of Peace, Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Dear Lord, I pray that you guide my job to work for your will and not my own.

Heavenly Father, today I come to you asking for your blessings to fill my place of work. Dear Lord, we know the world has to get worse before you will return to us. I simply ask you to stand by me as I try and make situations better.
Father I have felt you pushing me to embark on this topic. I ask you to help me feel your presence when I begin to speak our point of view. I ask for your courage, Lord, and for you to fill me with words of faith.

Concluding Thoughts
With so many different levels of government employees. There are endless opportunities for our Lord’s presence to be felt in society. Remember to work towards God’s will and not your own. As long as you do this he will always stand by your side.
