Although my dad loved having two daughters, he was thrilled when his first grandchild was a boy. He taught us to throw a ball and coached all our teams growing up, but I think he longed for a son at times. Now that he has 2 grandsons, he is thrilled, but knows the most important thing he can do is pray for his grandsons.
My dad often talks about wanting to take my boys on a fishing trip to Canada when they get older. It was something special he did with his dad and has longed to share this special memory with them as well.
I get tears in my eyes though when my dad talks about reading through two Bibles in next few years so that my boys can each have a Bible with special notes and highlights from their grandpa. It has truly been a gift to watch him take on the role of the spiritual leader through his identity as a grandpa.

He is so busy with my job and family that I often times forget about my grandson. Good and gracious God, please keep my grandson in good health. I know he has been battling a variety of health concerns and I pray that you clear them up. You are a miracle worker so I know that if it is Your will you will heal (name) of his afflictions.
Please heal (name) of not only his physical wounds, but his emotional and spiritual wounds as well. May (name) remember the words from Scripture, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3, NIV).

Prayer for a Grandson Who Has Turned From God
Lord, my grandson is not like his cousins. He no longer believes in You. He used to love going to church and talking about Bible stories. Now he won’t even attend church with our family anymore. Please penetrate his heart and show him that he is lost without you.
I worry about what will happen to him if he continues to stray from you. Our happiness and joy can only be sustained through You. I take comfort in knowing that You will always pursue him. I pray his heart will soften and he will desire to have a relationship with You again.
I’m not sure if there is anything else I can do but pray. I don’t want to ruin our relationship, but I don’t want to sit by idly either. It’s my mission as a grandparent to help him get to heaven. Prayer for a Grandson During Hard Times
Lord, my grandson is going through a difficult time right now. Things are piling up on him and I know he is struggling even though he doesn’t want to show it. He is such an amazing person. He is a true light in so much darkness in this world. Please don’t let the darkness get to him too.
Help him to persevere in all his endeavors. When my grandson is struggling help him and remember to “cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken” (Psalm 55:22, NIV).
We can fill ourselves with worldly things, but nothing will ever sustain us as You do. No matter how difficult things are right now for (name) please help him to have hope in You. Prayer for Grandson to Grow in Virtue
God, there are many virtues you want us to model as Christians. The Scriptures tell us that compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience are just a few of the characteristics we should embody as Christians (Colossians 3:12, NIV).
I fervently pray that my grandson strives to be compassionate, kind, humble, gentle, and patient. When he sees those less fortunate than he may he remembers to treat them with the love of Christ. May all the words that come from his lips be spoken with kindness, gentleness, and love.

Concluding Thoughts
The relationship between a grandparent and grandson is a special bond, but something that takes work. It’s easy for teens to become distant and adults to get wrapped up in all of their responsibilities.
Although quality time is most important, it’s not always feasible to be close to one another. Sending a card in the mail, a phone call or a text are all small gestures that will go a long way in the relationship with your grandson.
