Short Prayer About Gambling Addiction
Lord God, I think I’m addicted to gambling. I’m finding ways to bet on almost anything involving sports. I don’t know what to do. I feel like I should seek help, but I find it hard to face my addiction. I can see the toll it is taking on myself and my family because I lose more often than I win. I pray you to give me the strength to get help. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Prayer For A Family Member Addicted To Gambling
Dear God, I pray for my uncle who is clearly addicted to gambling. Every week he takes his retirement check and uses a good portion of it on lottery scratchers. He rarely wins, but when he does win a few bucks, he takes that as a sign that he’s close to winning big time.
He often doesn’t have enough money left over for groceries but he explains it away by telling us he doesn’t eat all that much. I pray he gets the help he needs because he won’t listen to us anymore. Please help him see his addiction. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For Co-worker With Gambling Addiction
God, I come to you in prayer because I’m pretty sure my co-worker is addicted to gambling. It seems like every weekend she is going to the casino. She leaves with such excitement but when she returns on Monday morning, she seems so down.
It’s not really my business, but I do feel empathy for her, and I don’t want her to ruin her life because she gambles too much. I don’t know how far I am supposed to intervene.
So, I’m bringing her to you, Lord. I pray that somehow, she will be awakened to her addiction. Help her get help before it’s too late. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer To Discern A Gambling Addiction
Father God, I need help. I have lost a lot of money over the last several months with all of the betting I have done. Am I addicted to gambling?
I don’t know if I can tell or not. I think everything is under control but my checking account is telling me a different story. I know I like how I feel when I place a bet and am anticipating how it will turn out. I like the rush I feel when my bet pays off.
I need help, I think, but I don’t know what to do. I’m not fully convinced I have a problem, but something is off if I’m praying to you about it. Please guide me or show me some sign, something. I am torn right now, Lord. Help me Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer To Be Delivered From Gambling Addiction
God, I am so ashamed right now. I have fallen on my face, financially. I have been confronted with the reality that I have gambled away tens of thousands of dollars in the last year. It’s all a blur to me.
I was so caught up in the excitement of winning, or possibly winning that I didn’t even see what I was doing as I drained a couple of my accounts. Exhilarating at times, but I crashed and crashed hard. I may have to declare bankruptcy if I don’t get help soon.
I can’t go on like this. I am ruining my life and the lives of those around me. I still don’t see how my wife hasn’t left me because of all of this. I need to be delivered from my addiction. I need help. I can’t do this on my own, at all.
Please help me God. Help me get the help, or counseling, or whatever it is I need to be whole again. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Finances Ruined By Gambling Addiction
God, I am a loser. I lost at gambling and I lost all of my money. I had my car repossessed last week. Unpaid bills are stacked on my kitchen counter. I wasted all the money in my checking, savings, and investment accounts.
I looked up online how to file for bankruptcy. I have ruined my finances and destroyed my life because of my gambling. I’m barely keeping my head above water right now. I really thought I was just having a run of bad luck.
I don’t know what to do, or where to turn, except to you, God. I am so filled with shame right now. I can’t tell anyone because no one will understand what I’ve done. They’ll just make me feel worse than I already do. Please help me God. I can’t see how I’m going to get out of this financial hole.
Please hear my prayer of desperation, through Christ I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Son With Gambling Addiction
Dear God, it breaks my heart to pray this prayer, but I don’t know what else to do. It’s become clear to us that our son has a gambling addiction. We thought he was just having fun with his friends on those long weekends he went to the nearby casino.
It wasn’t fun. It was a financial disaster. He has gambled away nearly all of the money he has. All of his savings are wiped out. He is barely able to pay his bills each month because he bets money as soon as he gets it.
He came to us asking for money and we had to give him tough love and tell him no because we couldn’t trust that he wouldn’t gamble it away. The only way we can help him is if we pay the utility company or the mortgage company directly. We’re not giving him any money outright.
He didn’t take that too well, which only confirmed our suspicions. We love our son dearly, but it is killing us to watch him destroy his life one bet at a time.
I pray he reaches rock bottom soon so he can wake up to his need for you, and his need for help. Hear our prayer, O God, through Christ Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For Husband With Gambling Addiction
God, I am at my wit’s end. My husband has a gambling addiction and it is ruining our life together, not to mention our financial security. I confronted him about it and he blew me off, “I’m just having a little fun at the card table.”
His “little fun” has cost us $20,000 in the last year. I showed him the bank statement and it didn’t register with him. He still didn’t get it. All he sees is the few times he wins and he thinks he’s about to hit a lucky streak and win big. “I’ll win it all back,” he tells me.
He’s not winning. He’s losing, and losing a lot. I’m afraid if he doesn’t come to grips with this addiction, he may lose me too. And what scares me is that I don’t know if he even cares.
I love my husband but this gambling addiction is tearing away at that love, bet by bet. It feels like he loves gambling more than he loves me, and I’m not sure I can live with that. I may need help as much as he does, Lord.
Please awaken my husband to his addiction and the destruction he is causing. And help me to know what to do. I pray all of this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Final Thoughts
Gambling addiction is hard to diagnose because you don’t often see the signs until your finances are practically ruined. You can’t smell gambling on your breath or see gambling track marks on your arm. You just see less money in your bank account. And that’s if you are paying attention.
Dealing with any addiction is a journey, and gambling is no different.
I am reminded of the following scripture found in the Psalms. It is a song, a prayer, that travelers would sing as they journeyed to Jerusalem for festivals. I quote it at length to emphasize that our hope is in God, through the battle with addiction, or anything else in life.
May it prove helpful to you in your own journey.
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore” (Psalm 121, NIV)

Please pray for me to be able to have the strength to stop gambling and start getting control of my finances and to start paying down my debts. Please also pray for my family that I have hurt badly. I have ruined so much and they still love me.
Praying for you. Trust in God.
Please stand in agreement with me, that the LORD JESUS, would completely restore my finances that I have shamefully and sinfully wasted gambling. I pray for HIS forgiveness, mercies and continued grace. Only HE, the LORD JESUS can remove the chains that bind me to this sin. I ask that HE would do like no other can do and completely cleans me and break these chains now and forever. I give HIM all the glory and thank HIM now. Praise HIM who can do those things No Other can. In the Name above all Names, JESUS my CHRIST, Amen.
Thank you for standing with me on this.
Praying with you. Amen.
