7 Tender Prayers For Hearing Loss

Are you losing your hearing and need to pray about it?

“Does he who fashioned the ear not hear?  Does he who formed the eye not see” (Psalm 94.9, NIV).

The Psalmist reminds us that no matter what we are bringing to God in prayer, he does hear us; our prayers reach God, as they are not just empty words that float away in the wind.  The God who made your ear exactly as it is, knows what you are experiencing and understands.  Who better to bring your concerns to than God?

Whatever the reason for your hearing loss, it means that there is a substantial change occurring in your body and it has immediate consequences and effects on your life.  You’re having to make adjustments that perhaps you were not ready for, or even want to make right now.

But you have to do something and prayer is a good place to start.

Let these seven tender prayers for hearing loss be a help to you during this stressful time.  It’s hard to communicate when you can’t hear clearly, or hear much at all.  These prayers are written for you to use as is, or you can modify the wording to better suit your specific situation.  But do use them to connect with God!

Short Prayer For Hearing Loss

Dear God, I am going to get a hearing test in just a little bit and I’m unexpectedly nervous.  I think I am afraid they are going to tell me that I have hearing loss and need hearing aids or something worse.

My husband has been telling me for months that I can’t hear and I’ve just blown him off about it because I didn’t want to face it at all.  But, lately, I’m finding that I am struggling to hear even basic conversations. Help the technicians and doctor to give me a good and thorough test. Help them to diagnose what is happening correctly.

I don’t want to lose my hearing, but I think it is already happening and I definitely need to deal with it.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For Hearing Loss In One Ear

Lord, I have had hearing loss in one ear for quite a while now and somehow my body adjusted to being able to hear out of only one ear.  I’m grateful I have at least one good ear to hear these days.

But I am finding myself getting really worried about losing my hearing in my good ear.  I am careful to wear earplugs in loud environments and so forth, but what about when I get older?  Will I have to get a hearing aid for my good ear?  How will I function?

I don’t want to stress out over this, but I still find it quite challenging at times to even do what I need to do with one good ear to hear with.  I don’t want to fret about losing the only hearing I’ve got.  Please help me to calm down and not be so anxious about all of this.  In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer For Hearing Loss Due to Age

Dear God in Heaven, I am a little scared right now.  I just came back from a hearing test at my doctor’s office and it is clear that I am experiencing hearing loss.  Over the past several months, I just thought I couldn’t understand people because there was too much other noise around or something.

But, no, I am slowly losing my ability to hear well at all.  I know several people my age who have hearing aids and they seem to do fine with them, but I am not ready for this at all.  I don’t want to have hearing aids because, in my mind, it means I’m officially getting older and breaking down.  I don’t want that!

This news has shaken me more than I figured, which is why I am praying to you.  I am feeling frozen to continue forward.  I don’t want to accept that I am in a new season of my life that requires outside assistance to do what I’ve done my whole life–hear!

Deep down, Lord, I know this is something I need to do, even have to do.  But, I’m just not ready for it.  Please help me step forward with this in due time.  I don’t want to be a stubborn old goat, but that’s how I’m feeling at the moment.  I pray for your guidance and your strength.  In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer For Hearing Loss Due To An Accident

Father God, I am in a situation that I am not prepared for, or even thought could ever happen.  I was in a car accident recently and somehow, I have lost a good portion of my hearing as a result.

I’m thankful to be alive, of course, but I’m feeling quite lost because my hearing loss is fairly significant.  I’m not completely deaf, but I’m going to need hearing aids for sure.  So, in addition to the other medical expenses I’m facing, now I find out I’ll need more than $3,000 or so in order to properly hear again with aids.

I need direction, Lord.  I need money to pay for all of this.  I need to be able to hear decently to do my work and take care of my family and all the other things I do in my life.  Help me to accept this new thing in my life that I do not want, but am forced to live with now.

I can’t let this stop me from living my life, but I am not sure how to proceed, where to go, who to see, or really anything!  I know you hear my prayer and I gain comfort and peace in that truth.  I pray this through Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer For Progressive Hearing Loss From Work

Dear God, I am finding it more difficult to hear what people are saying when they talk to me.  I have also noticed that I have to turn up the television volume to hear what’s happening on the screen.  I think I have hearing loss from my work.

I work around a lot of heavy machinery and it is very loud at my workplace, all the time.  We have sound-dampening headphones that are required and they help out a lot.  But I think that over time, all that repeated exposure to loud noises has affected my ears.

I’m getting a hearing test tomorrow to definitively show this, but I know I can’t hear as well as I used to do and I’m not old enough to have regular hearing loss, I don’t think.  I’m in a quandary as to what to do about this.  If my workplace has caused this, wouldn’t the company be responsible for covering whatever cost is involved in all of this?

I like where I work but I also don’t want to go completely deaf either.  Please direct me to people or resources to help me figure this out.  I just want to be able to enjoy my work and my life and hear people when they talk to me.  I don’t want to lose my ability to communicate with the people in my life.  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer For Temporary Hearing Loss

Dear Lord God, I can’t hear very well right now.  I went to a concert to see one of my favorite bands and it was fantastic.  But, I noticed when I got home my ears would not stop ringing and this morning everything is muffled greatly.

I can barely understand my family unless they speak right next to my ear.  I think I have hearing loss that I hope is just temporary.  I don’t understand how one evening of some loud music could do this to my ears, but something has happened and I can’t hear as I did before the concert.

I’m praying to you because I hope I haven’t completely lost my ability to hear properly just because I went to a concert.  I hope and pray there is a solution to this, or that it is temporary and will wear off or something.  I need to get to a hearing specialist soon, I think.  Please help me to find the right place to go and get this diagnosed.

I pray all of this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For Hearing Loss Due To Illness

Dear Lord God, I can’t hear like I used to and my doctor said it’s because of something called Varicella-Zoster Virus, which causes chicken pox and shingles.  I am stunned.

I dealt with shingles earlier this year and apparently, that affected my hearing.  I have hearing loss because of a virus!  I never knew something like this was possible.  I guess I can be grateful that I am not completely deaf as a consequence, but my hearing is very much affected.

Help me to deal with this sudden change in my life, as I seek solutions and a way forward.  I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Concluding Thoughts

We likely never really think about our hearing until it starts to fade or suddenly goes away for some reason.  It can be a struggle to accept hearing loss and deal with it.

Isn’t it a comfort, though, to realize that we have Jesus interceding for us with God the Father?  We are not alone in this predicament.

So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me.  I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me” (John 11.41-42, NIV).

Believe that God listens to your prayer.  Believe that God will guide you through this struggle you are now facing.  Let the prayers you pray bring you closer to God, and into a new season of faith in your life.
