From the moment we found out we were expecting a baby, my husband and I have been praying for our sons. Our greatest prayer is that they will grow up to know, love, and follow God. Although we only have toddlers, it is our greatest prayer for their future wives as well.
Down the hall in their sister’s room hangs a sign that says, “she is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come” (Proverbs 31:25). There are many characteristics we desire for our son’s future wives, but this verse sums up so much in a few short words.
- Strong: We hope she is strong in her identity as a child of God.
- Dignity: We hope she knows her worth, never sells herself short, and that she also speaks and acts in a dignified manner.
- Laugh at the days to come: We hope this woman trusts in God and His providence so that she won’t be anxious about the future.

God, I love my son so much. I hope his future wife is someone who is worthy of him. He is a strong, but gentle man who deserves the very best.

I pray my son and his future wife will have a holy friendship together before pursuing a romantic relationship. I know that’s not always how things work, but I think the basis for a long lasting marriage is friendship first.
Thank you for Your guiding hand throughout our whole lives O, Lord. We trust in You and Your providence to find the perfect wife for our son. We know only You are perfect, but there is one person you have hand picked for our son to spend his life with. She will be the perfect person to lead her closer to You. Thank O, God. Prayer for Patience for Son to Find a Wife
It’s hard to wait to find your spouse when relationships are all around you. It’s a privilege to have someone who will love and care for you all the days of your life. Our society tells men not to show their feelings so I know he hides his true desire for companionship.
Patience is a virtue and we pray he uses this time to grow as a man of honor and integrity. Someone once told me to pray with a passage from 1 Corinthians and replace the word love and it with your name. Today I pray this for (son’s name).
[Love] is patient, [love] is kind. [Love] does not envy, [it] does not boast, [it] is not proud. [Love] does not dishonor others, [it] is not self-seeking, [it] is not easily angered, [it] keeps no record of wrongs. [Love] does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Glory to God in the highest! One thing we ask of our son’s future wife is that she will be a woman of noble character. Proverbs 31:10-31 is a passage about a what it means to be a wife of noble character.
“She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue” (Proverbs 31: 26, NIV). May (name’s) wife be a woman who is attentive to the movements of Your voice. I hope she uses this skill to make prudent and wise decisions. May she be a woman whose words are kind loving and not idle with gossips.
“She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks” (Proverbs 31: 17). I hope (name’s) future wife is determined and hardworking. May she succeed in whatever tasks she is working towards no matter if they are big or small.
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” (Proverbs 31:30, NIV). I pray (name’s) future wife is a God fearing woman in all the best ways. I know she will glow with beauty if she is in awe of You and desires to please you.
Please place a woman in his life who desires to be a woman of noble character. I pray for her parents that they are instilling in her the importance of this characteristic and that she has a mother who is a good example of being a woman of worth. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for Son’s Future Wife to Put God First
Dear God, Your Son says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these” (Mark 12: 30-31, NIV).
If these are your greatest commandments then they are my biggest prayers for our son’s future wife. I hope his wife is someone who loves you above all else. Someone who puts You first is someone who will treat (name) the way he deserves to be treated.
If she is struggling to put you first right now I pray that you take away the distractions. Give her the desire to be a holy woman who prays daily and fervently.
I also pray she loves others as herself. Your Son served the poor selflessly and that is something we should be doing here on earth. It is our mission as Christians to be Your face, hands, and feet to those we encounter daily. We hope this mission is at the forefront of her mind.

Prayer for Son’s Future Wife to Be a Virtuous Woman
God, there are many virtues you want us to model as Christians. The Scriptures tell us that compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience are just a few of the characteristics we should embody as Christians (Colossians 3:12, NIV).
I fervently pray that (name’s) future wife is compassionate, kind, humble, gentle, and patient. When she sees those less fortunate than her may she remember to treat them with the love of Christ. May all the words that come from her lips be spoken with kindness, gentleness and love.
May she be a woman who does not boast about her accomplishments. May she be someone who recognizes Your power and knows that she can do nothing without You. May she have a heart of humility. If she struggles in this area please give her the desire to change and/or put someone in her life to help her improve in this area.

Concluding Thoughts
After experiencing the highs and lows of marriage for the past 5 years, it’s already become abundantly clear that our children need to find spouses who keep Christ at the center of their lives and it’s never too early to start praying for them.
A marriage rooted in Christ will not only survive but thrive and bloom wherever it is planted and the same is also true for the earlier stages of your son’s relationship as well.
May all of our sons have wisdom and prudence as they are choosing a wife. You probably won’t pick your son’s future wife, but you can pray for him and be a model of what it means to be a wife full of love and service for the Lord and your family.
I pray my sons wife is a better woman and wife than I am. I pray she remains loyal and faithful to my son. For it would break my heart if she hurt him in that damaging way.
