When I went to college I got to know my campus minister, Doris, very well. She is a beautiful woman of faith and, at 18 years old, I thought it was strange that this 45-year-old woman and her husband had no children. I later learned that she has thyroid problems that contributed to infertility. Because of Doris, I realized it’s important to pray for people with thyroid problems.
There are several different types of thyroid problems people might have such as hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and cancer. The thyroid’s main job is to control the speed of your metabolism which is how our bodies turn food into energy. In addition, thyroid hormones also affect, heart rate, breathing, digestion, mental activity, and fertility to name a FEW!
So as you can see, if you have thyroid problems it can be very serious and stressful, especially if it takes a while to find the right medicine or procedure to fix the problem.
It’s normal to be concerned about a health issue, but it’s important to ask God for healing and trust your medical providers. If you are waiting on an appointment and there’s nothing else you can do, you have to try to stay calm.
The Scriptures say, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7, NIV).
The best time to exercise trust in the Lord’s plan is when you are facing a difficult problem, in this case, thyroid problems. My God, I have thyroid cancer. There’s a lot of unknown that comes with this diagnosis. I am worried about the sacrifices I will have to make and the things I may have to miss out on because of my treatment. I ask that if it is your will that you heal me completely and I use this time as an opportunity to grow as a disciple and glorify You.
Help me to confidently put my trust in you. Wrap your loving arms around me as I come to terms with this diagnosis. Help me to feel safe and loved by You during this difficult time.

Prayer for Thyroid Surgery
Lord, I need to have surgery to help me figure out these thyroid problems. I am so nervous that there will be complications.
There are plenty of ways this could go wrong so I need Your peace. Help me to surrender my fears and worries to you. I lay them at the foot of the cross. I feel like I can’t handle the stress of this so I know I must cast my burdens onto you because I cannot handle this alone.
God, please give the doctors wisdom as they perform this surgery. I know they have done this before and will do the best they can to make this surgery a success. Please bless their hands so they can work quickly and accurately.
Please help this to be just a routine surgery and to go smoothly. Help me to be calm and courageous. May I cling to the words from the Scriptures, “Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord” (Psalm 31:24, NIV).

Prayer for Hypothyroidism
Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Thank you, God, for helping me figure out my hypothyroidism problems. It took a long time, but after feeling exhausted, gaining weight, muscle aches, and thinning hair (or whatever your symptoms were) I was finally able to figure out I have hypothyroidism.
I had no idea that my thyroid gland didn’t make enough of the thyroid hormone. I’m grateful we were able to catch it early enough so that I didn’t have high cholesterol or heart problems.
I am working with my doctor to find the right dosage of medicine to help me get this completely under control. However, if it is your will please heal me and anyone else suffering from hypothyroidism. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for Hyperthyroidism
Lord, I praise you for your goodness. Thank you for helping me figure out my thyroid problems. It took a long time, but after having irregular heartbeat problems, losing a lot of weight, anxiety, and sweating (or whatever your symptoms were) I was finally able to figure out I have hyperthyroidism.
I had no idea that my thyroid gland made too much of the thyroid hormone. I am working with my doctor to find the right dosage of medicine to help me get this completely under control.
I am a little bit nervous though because sometimes people who have hyperthyroidism have to have surgery to remove part or all of the thyroid. That is terrifying. I’m trying not to jump to conclusions and trust in my doctor’s plan for me based on the results of my medical testing.
Lord, I trust You. However, if it is your will please heal me and anyone else suffering from hyperthyroidism. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for Thyroid Infertility Problems
Lord, I have been struggling with infertility and my OBGYN thinks it is thyroid related. I want a baby so badly so I really hope we can figure it out. However, even if I am able to get pregnant there’s a high risk of miscarriage. It makes me so scared to pregnant. I don’t know how I would be able to make it through a loss like that.
I am reminded of Elizabeth. She was old and thought to be barren, but still, she was able to get pregnant with John the Baptist.
The angel told Mary, mother of Jesus, “Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail” (Luke 1:36-37, NIV).
She trusted in Your will, whether it was to be a biological mother or spiritual mother. Help me to have that same trust in You. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
