Are you looking for how to pray about accomplishing your dreams and goals in life?
Are you unsure as to where to begin?
We invite you to use the prayers written here. These six confident prayers to accomplish goals and dreams allow you to give voice to the desires of your heart with God. We cannot know all that you need to pray in this situation, but these prayers can serve as a good starting point for you and help you find your purpose. It is okay to change the words of any of these prayers to make them suitable to your precise situation.
When the Apostle Peter was bearing witness to a large crowd after Pentecost, he spoke the words of a prophet, reminding them (and us, now), that God can and will communicate through dreams and visions.
“This is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
“‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy” (Acts 2.16-18, NIV).
Sometimes, when we speak of having dreams, we use the word interchangeably with the word goals. We may say, “I dream of (thing we really would like to do or achieve).” We’re saying we’re aiming toward a specific point ahead, or a level we want to get to.
That said, we can recognize that God may want to communicate to us through our dreams. Two examples center on Joseph, the husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
“When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him” (Matthew 2.13, NIV).
And then again,
“After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt 20 and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.”So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel” (Matthew 2.19, NIV).
So, we can be at peace if we have actual dreams about something happening and believe that God is speaking to us through those dreams. We can also realize it’s okay to have hopes and dreams–things we want to strive for and work towards. Goals are a way of helping us make those dreams come true.
There are many ways to set goals, or seek to achieve your dreams. Our focus for you here, though, is to serve you by helping you pray about those dreams, pray to God about your goals. May you make prayer a daily habit about everything in your life!
Prayer to Accomplish Goals at Work
Dear Lord, I feel like I’m treading water at work. I keep doing the same thing and am not making any progress in my career. I think I need to set some solid goals I can work towards in the next few months. I’m praying to you, Lord, because I am not sure where to start.
I am asking you to guide me in setting the goals, and working to accomplish them one by one. My boss said he’d help me, so maybe that’s one avenue to explore. But I know that if you’re not in this, it doesn’t really matter, Lord. I want to be directed by your Spirit as I set these important goals for what I do at work.
I ask all these things in the name of Jesus, the Author and Finisher of my faith, Amen.
Prayer to Accomplish Goals at School
Dear God, I need your help to accomplish the goals I’ve set for myself at school. My parents helped me lay the goals out with specific steps and measurable results. I like knowing that I will be able to tell if I reach the goal I’ve set.
I’m praying to you, though, because I believe I won’t be able to achieve these goals without your strength in me. I believe I can do all things through Jesus, so I come to you asking for your help and guidance. I believe that if I went through all the effort to set these goals, then you would want me to work towards them.
I pray that I may be able to accomplish these goals and be in a better place than where I am starting out now. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer to Accomplish Goals at Home
Dear God in heaven, we had a family meeting last night to set goals for our family. The children are old enough now to have a real voice in what’s going on, so we we wanted to include them. We were able to set a few goals we could all agree on, and agree on to work towards achieving.
I was so proud of our family as we discussed all of this last night. I pray to you now asking for your direction for each one of us, and all of us together, as we live out what we want to strive for in these goals. I believe we will be in a much better place emotionally and spiritually as a family in a few months. I make this prayer through Christ our Lord, Amen.
Prayer to Fulfill Dreams
Dear Lord, I keep thinking about all of these things I want to do. I day dream about what I want to achieve, and who I want to become. I am okay with who I am, and where I am, but I am not satisfied that this is all there is.
I believe the dreams I have are achievable, even though I know they are very ambitious. I pray that you enable me to keep my confidence high as I work toward these dreams. I figure that I wouldn’t have these dreams if you didn’t want me to work to make them a reality.
I don’t know how all of this will turn out, Lord, but I know that as I pray to you about this, you can guide me. You can direct my path toward these dreams. I pray this in the confidence that you hear my prayer, through Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer About Having Dreams
Lord Jesus, I feel like I have dreams that mean something. I try to write down what I dream about when I wake up, but I’m not sure what they mean, or why I’m having these dreams. They’re not nightmares or anything like that, just vivid dreams.
I know people in the Bible had dreams and you spoke to them through those dreams. Are you trying to tell me something, Lord? I’m praying to you for guidance and insight. I don’t usually remember my dreams, but as of late, I am. I believe that is meaningful in some way. I come to you in prayer, seeking truth.
I will continue writing down what I remember and continue praying for you to show me what I need to know, by your Spirit. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Prayer About Setting Goals to Accomplish
Dear Jesus, can you help me to set some goals for my life? I’ve read all of this stuff online about how to set goals–making sure they are achievable and measurable and all of that. I think all of that is helpful, but I come to you in prayer now to ask for the guidance to make those goals meaningful in my life.
I don’t want to set goals just to have goals. I want to work towards something that will bring me closer to you and make me a better person. So, Lord, I pray to you for your guidance, insight, and direction. Help me to set goals that I can accomplish and become who you created me to be. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Consider This
Setting goals, or having dreams and goals to work towards are positive aspects of life we should want. We always want to strive for a better tomorrow. But remember, as you set your goals and work to achieve them, that God is the source of all that is good in your life. Consider praying to God about the goals and dreams you have for your life, as the prophet reminds us.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 29.11-14, NIV).
The more we seek God, the more likely that our dreams and goals will align with where God is leading us. And, if you are having dreams that are meaningful, realize that God is always speaking to us–through Scripture, through other people, through the Holy Spirit, and even through dreams. Are we listening? Are we attuned to the sound of the still small voice of the Almighty?
“For God does speak—now one way, now another—
though no one perceives it.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night,
when deep sleep falls on people
as they slumber in their beds,
16 he may speak in their ears
and terrify them with warnings,
17 to turn them from wrongdoing
and keep them from pride,
18 to preserve them from the pit,
their lives from perishing by the sword” (Job 33.14-18, NIV).
As you pray these prayers, may God guide you in your path toward your goals and you can show your gratitude along the way. May the dreams you have be fulfilled in accordance with the will and direction of God. We welcome your comments and prayers in the section below.
