9 Helpful Opening Prayers For A Class

Prayers For a Class

Do you need to pray to open a class at school? Have you been asked to pray at a school event?

Let these nine helpful prayers open the door to being confident as you pray in front of other people. You can pray them as they are written, or you can modify them to fit into your particular circumstance.

It’s not easy to pray in public, especially if you have not done it before. Using these written prayers is both appropriate and encouraging. If need be, you can also reference prayers for a successful event, or prayers for good grades.

“Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline” (Proverbs 1.7, NLT).

If you are allowed to pray before a class at school, you can pray a prayer of thanks to God that you are able to do so. In some places, this practice is not followed. Remember, you are praying in public, on behalf of everyone there, so you want to practice your prayer a few times.

You don’t have to use a fake voice or be formal in your language, but you don’t want to stammer around like, “Well, um, God, I, uh, want to, like, pray to You. . .” Let God be glorified in your prayer. Think of it like this: you are serving others by praying before the class, so do it well!

We’d love to hear how it went for you. Could you drop us a line in the comments section below and share with us? Thanks!

I pray that they will grow in their trust in me, and I pray I will grow in my ability to see each student as unique. Help me to see how they best learn and can move forward. I want each student to succeed to the best of their ability.

Thank You for this class and for this subject matter. I pray I can instill my love for this into each student in some way, big or small. On behalf of everyone here, I pray we have a good first day of class. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Opening Prayer On the First Day of Class

Dear God in heaven, it is the first day of classes here at our school and there is both excitement and anxiety in the air. I pray for a Spirit of calmness and acceptance upon each student and teacher here today.

May our hearts and minds be open to learning, not only through books and tests and papers, but also through shared experiences and the relationships we will build with different people throughout this year of school.

I pray this day goes well, without distractions or interference. May we all go home safely, glad for the chance to learn and grow. I ask all of this through Jesus Christ, Amen.

Opening Prayer On The Last Day of Class

Lord God, we have all come a long way since the first day of class so many months ago. Each person here has been changed by what they’ve seen, heard and learned. I give You thanks for bringing us all through this year without harm.

As we begin our last day of classes, I want to pause and pray, letting all of us consider how You have moved in our lives, in tangible and personal ways, throughout this school year. It is only because of Your loving hand that we are where we are right now.

When there was provision needed, You provided. When there was anxiety and worry over grades and tests, You gave peace, calmness, and clear thinking. When there was disappointment in relationships, You gave grace and forgiveness.

So, as we begin this final day of classes, let us rejoice in our hearts that You are with us, and You hold us in the palm of Your hand. May You be glorified in all we do this day. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer Before A Class Party

On behalf of everyone in this classroom, I want to thank You that we get to celebrate good things today. We don’t need to worry about the bad things that may be happening out there. Right now, here in this room, we can simply enjoy the positive!

May You bless this time together and help us savor the food before us and the friends we have beside us. Let this party be a high point of this day. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer In Class Before Final Tests

Lord God, I pray for each student here today. In just a few minutes we will begin our final tests for the year. I know You have helped me to teach these young people all that I know about this subject. I trust in You for their ability to recall and synthesize all of it today.

I pray that each student is able to think clearly and process what they know in an effective manner. I pray you calm frayed nerves and let Your peace fall upon this entire room. Thank You for the opportunity to teach and thank You for the opportunity for these students to learn.

Class Prayer Before A Quiz

God, I pray this prayer for myself and each student in this class. We are about to take a quiz and I want each of us to be able to do our best on it.

Help us to remember the information we need to recall, and help us to be clear in our answers. I hope no one gets too anxious over the next hour. Thank You for being with us, and thank you for letting us be able to learn and show what we have learned. I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer To Start A Class With A New Teacher

Dear God, I am a little nervous, but I know that You hear our prayers, no matter how eloquent they may be. I have been asked to pray for our new teacher and our new class.

I want to thank You for (teacher’s name) and her openness to take this class. May You guide her, not only today but each day she teaches, so she can share her joy in this subject with us. May we be open to her style of teaching and may we all be open to learning from her.

I don’t know what to expect, Lord, so I pray for clarity, direction, and fun. May our new teacher feel accepted as she begins today. Help us all to learn together. I ask all of this through Jesus Christ, Amen.

Final Thoughts

Whether you are a student or a teacher, praying in a classroom can be a challenging experience. Not only are you speaking in front of other people, but you are praying to God in front of other people!

Don’t let that throw you. Take strength and courage from God, who is strong when you are at your weakest. Trust in Him to help you pray clearly and with confidence.

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you” ( Philippians 4.9, NIV).

God will not abandon you in your time of need, even if that need is praying to open a class at school, or to begin a school event. May these prayers help deepen your trust in God, and help you grow in your relationship to Him. Keep on praying!
