Does school seem pointless? Are you struggling to understand? Maybe you struggle more socially? Whatever your struggles are regarding school we are glad you are here.
For me, this topic is personal because I hear about the struggles of school daily from my kids. It seems like each time they move up or there is change, there are new struggles.
We all want to make sense of what we do every day. If you are in school right now and struggling it may feel like you are just working through pointless work and non of it excites you. But we all have the desire to know that our lives are counting towards something.
You may feel like the teacher in Ecclesiastes who says.
“Meaningless! Meaningless!”says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” (Ecclesiastes 1:2 NIV)
Sometimes when we struggle through school it seems meaningless. But in just a couple of chapters, later this same teacher remembers that when we do all this for God and in light of eternity, the things that once seemed meaningless, have meaning.
These prayers will help you begin to talk with God about the struggles you are having with school. My hope is that they will turn you from struggling to seeing that there is goodness in your struggles when you keep your eyes on Christ.

God, help me with my school struggles. Sometimes I feel like my mind just doesn’t work and school seems so difficult. God, you have given me my mind and I pray that I can use it.
God, throughout scripture I see that using my mind is important. You are my teacher and have given me teachers. You have given me the ability to learn, a mind to remember, and the opportunities to test what we know.
I want to know you and your teachings more, please help me get closer to you even as I struggle through school. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Morning Prayer For School Struggles
Heavenly Father, I pray that you be with me today as I again get ready for school. Help me to prepare my mind to study. Allow my breakfast to fuel my mind so I am ready to learn.

God, you know that I struggle to eat lunch in front of my peers. I struggle because I don’t want to look like a fool or get a mess on myself, or because my friends think I eat weird foods. The struggle around lunch at school is starting to drag me down.
God, will you help me to see that you have created food as a good thing for me? It refreshes me and restores me. You have given me good things in my life. Will you help me feel the freedom to eat at school despite my past struggles? I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For School Success
God, you have gotten me through another day. The struggles I faced with friends and schoolwork seemed manageable today as I kept my focus on you.
When I was tempted to get down on myself during the test today I prayed to you and felt your peace. Thank you!
God, I also saw you working in my friendships. Those who usually seem to pull me into gossip took my cues to not start those conversations.
Thank you for giving me the strength to change the conversation, for allowing my friends not to care, and for helping us not to sin in that way.

Prayer To Find Meaning At School
God, I know I have to go to school but I’m struggling to find meaning, it all seems pointless.
God, sometimes school is a struggle not because I am not able to learn but my desire to learn. So much of school seems pointless. Help me to see that even things at school that seem pointless can be learned in a way that honors you.
Help me to put my very best forward. Help me to sleep well, prepare, and to be humble when I go to school. God, also help me to remember that I am working at school whole heartily not to get good grades or make others happy but rather to glorify you.
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, (Colossians 3:23 ESV)
Help me to trust you that you have me at this school right now, especially when I’m struggling. Do not let me get into the trap that simply because I don’t understand the meaning behind what I’m doing that it doesn’t matter.
God, you are the ultimate worker. You worked to create the world and you work now as my savior.
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:14-16 ESV)
The work I’m doing doesn’t seem rewarding now, and maybe that is why I find it so irrelevant. Since the fall some work has become monotonous or even painful but I know that my work if I’m in Christ, is not meaningless but tied to eternity.
This idea helps me God to find joy even in the struggles of school.
God, I ask that you be present with me in my studying. Help me to abide in you even when my work seems pointless. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For The Ability To Understand What I’m Studying
God, I’m struggling at school because I simply don’t understand.
I pray for wisdom right now. I know that you can help me understand. I know that the wisdom you provide is more precious than anything else.
Blessed is the one who finds wisdom,
and the one who gets understanding, (Proverbs 3:13ESV)
God, I know that understanding what I’m learning at school is important. I pray that as I struggle through that my parents and teachers extend grace, patience, and kindness. Remind me how much I need your strength and give me your knowledge.
God, thank you that as I try and understand what I’m learning at school that you are also teaching me and helping me grow. You are sanctifying me, teaching me, and shaping me through this school experience.

Prayer For Struggling Friendships At School
Jesus, you have called me to be salt and light in this world. My school is so worldly that I’m struggling to find any friends. Help me to shine for you.
A man of many companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24 ESV)
God, I know that it is good to have friends, but why is it such a struggle at school? You say it is not good for us to dwell, or to work, alone (Gen. 2:18). Help me to find my lasting friends not in this world but those that also trust in you.
God, I long to belong and have a great friend. When I’m tempted to throw myself into different situations at school just to make a friend help me to instead lean into my friendship with you and allow you to lead in my earthly friendships.
God, give me perseverance and a willingness to bear with my friends at school. Please give me the confidence to continue to reach out to friends and initiate conversations even when I may struggle, because I am safe in my relationship with you.
God, help me to view friendships, not as a struggle that will defeat me but as a struggle that is created me to be more Christ-like. Help me to learn through these struggles.

Closing Thoughts
Your struggle with school will probably not just go away. However, as you begin to pray about it you can lean into the struggle with a God who loves you.
The pressures of this school foreshadow the pressures of this world. You can begin now to lean into God with your struggles. Allow him to work in your life through your struggles with school.
Above everything else remember that Christ has already overcome this world. Cling to the finished work of Christ and surrender your school to him.
