Are you concerned about your high blood pressure? Are you unsure about how to pray about your high blood pressure?
If you’re one of the nearly 122 million people over the age of 20 who have high blood pressure, you know what it is and how it affects your daily life. You may know what you’re supposed to eat or not, or how much exercise to get. But have you ever considered praying about your high blood pressure?
Wouldn’t you find some comfort in bringing your concerns and worries to God?
Consider that God desires to give you peace, not to have you balled up with tension and stress, which makes your heart work harder than it needs to. Can you receive the promise of Christ for your condition?
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14.27, NIV).
As you pray, you may likely find that your breathing slows down and a sense of calm envelopes you as you rest, truly rest, in God’s presence. Just acknowledging that you need help from God can bring peace to your body. Of course, you will want to continue whatever treatments and medicines your doctor has given you, but praying about your high blood pressure is a positive addition to what you are doing.
Let these seven honest prayers about high blood pressure be a help to you in your time of need. You might also benefit by looking at prayers for heart surgery, or prayers for good medical results.

Short Prayer About High Blood Pressure
Dear God, I think I have high blood pressure but I don’t want to go to the doctor to get checked because I don’t want to have to change my life. I realize I’m being stubborn but I just don’t want to deal with this right now. I’m not really sure what to do, so guide me, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer About High Blood Pressure Diagnosis
Dear God, I am returning home from my doctor’s visit today and I have been told that I now have high blood pressure. I don’t feel like I should have high blood pressure, but my tests and bloodwork all confirm it.
I’m not sure how I feel about all of this, but at the moment, I don’t like it. I thought I was in decent health, but now I have to change some of what I eat and add some exercise, too. I don’t like change and now I have to do a lot of changes, in my mind.
My doctor said I may need to add some daily medicine but we’ll see how these new changes do over the next several weeks. I’m praying to you for strength to absorb all of this and for these changes to work.
I don’t want to start having to take prescriptions every day, unless it is absolutely necessary. Please help my body to heal from the inside, Lord. I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer About Dealing With High Blood Pressure
Lord God, I am trying to deal with my high blood pressure, but it is harder than I thought to do all my doctor has told me I need to do. I’ve been trying to walk some each day and I’ve never smoked so that one was easy to mark off the list.
I thought the walking would help me lose the extra pounds I need to lose as well, but I haven’t really seen much change there. I know I need to eat a healthier intake of food but my old favorites are hard to give up. With all of these other changes in my life, I think I use my comfort foods so I have something familiar, that isn’t changing.
I don’t want to die from this or have a stroke or a heart attack, but this high blood pressure is harder to get under control than I thought. I am asking you for daily, continued perseverance, so I can do what I need to do. I don’t want this health burden for the rest of my life. It is in the name of Jesus I make this prayer, Amen.
Prayer About Lowering My High Blood Pressure
God in heaven, I don’t understand why my blood pressure numbers are not dropping. I’ve been eating healthy, getting daily activity, taking my meds like I’m supposed to, and generally trying to lower my stress levels. But my numbers are still high.
If I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing, shouldn’t there be some change, some good progress? I mean, why am I doing all of this and making so many changes in my daily life if it’s not going to result in actually lowering my high blood pressure?
I’m clearly frustrated which is why I’m praying to you, God, about all of this. My doctor doesn’t want to listen to my whine about this stuff–they get it all day from their patients. I was just so hopeful that if I did A, B, and C, then I would get the result that I wanted.
Maybe it will take longer than I thought. I need patience, Lord, and a daily focus to keep at it. Help me with my perspective and my attitude. I don’t want to have a heart attack because I’m stressed about my high blood pressure! Hear my prayer through Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer About Not Wanting To Get High Blood Pressure
Father God, I pray to you about my health. High blood pressure runs strong in my family and I do not want all of that. I’ve seen what dealing with it has done to my parents and my grandparents. The daily taking of pills, the restricted diet, and all of the other things they have to do so they don’t have a heart attack.
Unfortunately, two of them did die because of things related to high blood pressure. My grandma died of a stroke and my dad died of a heart attack. I do not want that for my life. I don’t want my family to worry about me the way I worried about them.
Please help me to incorporate good living practices into my life so that I don’t even get high blood pressure. Help me adopt good emotional and mental habits to lower my stress and give me a positive outlook. I pray that you will help my body to function well in the coming years.
I am praying that you can help me, with healthy living, to overcome my genetic predisposition to high blood pressure. Just because it’s possible doesn’t mean it has to happen. I pray this prayer of hope and trust through Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer For My Spouse’s High Blood Pressure
Dear God, I am worried about my husband. He has high blood pressure and has had it for quite a while. He takes his medicine regularly like he is supposed to, but he is being so stubborn about getting more exercise and changing his eating habits. I am terrified that his stubbornness is going to kill him and then I will be alone.
I have tried to tell him how concerned I am and that I don’t want him to die, but he just brushes me off with, “Having a cheeseburger and watching sports from my recliner ain’t going to kill me.” Except that not being active and eating high cholesterol food will kill him. He just doesn’t get how serious this is.
I am starting to get angry and resentful because he is disrespecting my love and concern for him. It’s like he doesn’t care that what he’s doing may cause him to die much sooner than normal. Does he really want to leave me a widow far before we’re old and gray?
I can’t get through to him, Lord, so I pray that you will get the message to him somehow so he will do what he needs to do to get this high blood pressure under control. I can’t change him, only you can. So, I pray for that to happen before he dies of a stroke or something. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer About High Blood Pressure Medications
Dear Lord, I have been told by my doctor that I need to consider taking medication to help bring my high blood pressure under control. I have never really liked taking drugs for health problems, but she said having high blood pressure is a serious deal.
I’m concerned about the side effects of some of the medications, but it seems like I’m going to have to take something. Changing my diet and being more active haven’t really moved the numbers down much at all, so a prescription pill is the next step.
I certainly don’t want to get a heart attack or suffer a stroke of any kind. I just don’t want to have to deal with more problems that taking a drug can bring on. Help me to figure out what will work best and what I can tolerate, at least tolerate enough. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Concluding Thoughts
Nobody wants high blood pressure, but once it is diagnosed, it has to be dealt with and managed well. Ignoring it can truly be fatal. That said, having high blood pressure doesn’t have to add additional stress to your life.
If you can remember that you belong to God through Jesus Christ, you can also remember that you can bring all of your worries, anxieties, and burdens to God. You don’t have to fixate and worry about your high blood pressure, which only increases the stress you’re trying to reduce!
“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” ( Matthew 6.27, NIV).
Matthew the Gospel writer recorded the words of Jesus for all of us and this simple sentence brings such deep wisdom. Worrying about your high blood pressure won’t lengthen your life, but will likely just increase your blood pressure because worrying brings stress.
Rest in the Lord as you pray about your high blood pressure. Let God’s peace surround you and enlighten you with a new attitude and calm in your heart.
