Searching for a prayer to have positive thinking?  Need to pray for good thoughts?

These six powerful prayers are for you.  The fact that you are taking a step to think more positively is a good sign in and of itself.  By bringing that desire to God in prayer underscores how important this is for your spiritual journey and mindset.

You can choose which prayer best suits your situation, or you can use them all as you see fit.  They are written in a way that you can pray them word-for-word if you want.  Or, you can alter the prayers for your specific circumstances.  The focus is to pray and invite God to help you get rid of negativity in your thought life.

A cheerful heart is good medicine,
    but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17.22, NIV).

What we think, what is in our heart, has a direct impact on what we do.  If we think positively, we tend to act positively.  The wisdom of Proverbs is instructive to us on this point.  We need to surround ourselves with truth, especially God’s truth.

“Pay attention to what I say;
    turn your ear to my words.
 Do not let them out of your sight,
    keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them
    and health to one’s whole body.
Above all else, guard your heart,
    for everything you do flows from it.
 Keep your mouth free of perversity;
    keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
 Let your eyes look straight ahead;
    fix your gaze directly before you” (Proverbs 4.20-25, NIV).

What’s in our heart and mind influences your physical body.  If negative thoughts can affect your health, then it follows that positive thinking can create a positive influence in your body.

A happy heart makes the face cheerful,
    but heartache crushes the spirit” (Proverbs 15.13, NIV).

As you pray, allow God’s Spirit to fill you with grace and joy.  Allow yourself to be open to take hold of your thoughts and choose a positive option.  You are not required to let a negative thought take hold in your brain just because it presents itself.

Prayer For a Positive Attitude

Dear Lord, will you help me to have a more positive attitude each day?  I find myself having a bad attitude about everything from traffic and waiting in line, to being inconvenienced or told news I don’t want to hear.  I don’t think my negative attitude is good for my mind or my health.

I am not getting good sleep lately and I believe it’s a result of my negative attitude all day long.  I need to transform my life and attitude.  I can’t do this on my own because I’ve tried and I’m not making much headway. I need supernatural intervention to make this change.

I’m hungry for positive change and I really want a positive attitude.  I ask you in prayer in the name of Jesus Christ for this, Amen.

Prayer For Positive Thinking

God in heaven, I want to thank you for how you are helping me to think more positively about society, politics, and government. I admit have had a tendency towards negative thinking until I began to purposely think positive thoughts.

I could not have done it without the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit.  I sensed the Spirit’s movement in my thoughts as I made conscious choices to think “You could go negative here, but why not go positive?”  I could see the difference these small choices made over time.

Now, I see a tendency towards thinking more positively and I’ve noticed it has made me more positive in other areas of my life.  For that, I am grateful.  I like thinking in a positive manner.  Thank you Lord!  In the name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.

Prayer For Good Thoughts About a Bad Situation

Lord, I need your help.  I’ve got a bad situation brewing around me and I can’t seem to bring up any good thoughts about it.  I need to have good thoughts in order to face this situation with a proper and confident mindset.  Bad thoughts are not going to help me and will only make this bad situation much worse in the long run.

I can’t really do much about the situation itself right now, but I would like to have control of my thoughts.  I need good thoughts and the good mindset that brings.  Then, I believe, I can better face this situation.  I’m at a loss as to how to proceed so I ask for you to guide me specifically and help me see clearly.

I need good thoughts, good mindset, and a good solution.  I am asking for this in prayer because I believe that you can help me.  I believe you want to help me.  I make this prayer in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For a Positive Attitude at Work

Lord Jesus, I want to be a better influence in my workplace, so I am praying to you, asking for a more positive attitude at work.  I’m asking for your help, Lord, because I’m not sure I can do it on my own.  I know you won’t force me to think something and I have to take responsibility for my thoughts and mindset.

But I also believe that by your Spirit, you can enable me and strengthen me to think and act in a more positive manner.  I want to have a positive attitude at work because I’m seeing so much negativity.  Everyone seems so concerned about themselves that no one cares about working for the good of the team.

I want to step up and effect positive change.  I can only do that if I myself have a positive attitude.  I’m hoping that positivity will spread from person to person.  Will you help me, Lord?  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer For Positive Thinking Instead of Begin Negative

God I can’t continue with the way I’m thinking.  My thoughts are a jumble of negative, negative, negative. I’m desperate for some positivity in my brain.  I don’t like what the negative thinking is doing to me.

I want to think positive thoughts flowing through my brain. I want to have positive thinking be my default mindset.  I’m reading as much scripture as I can to try and use those words of truth to combat the negative thoughts.  I can see some movement towards good with that, but I am praying for your divine guidance to help me.  I make this prayer in the name of Love, Jesus Christ, Amen.

Final Thoughts

You’ve probably heard someone express negativity about some topic or subject.  You also know how that kind of negativity has made you feel.  Now consider if you were the person saying what’s negativity.  Scripture tells us that what is in our heart comes out of our mouth.  That’s another way of saying that what we think and feel gets expressed in what we say and do.

Gracious words are a honeycomb,
    sweet to the soul and healing to the bones” (Proverbs 16.24, NIV).

Positive thoughts, good thoughts get expressed in positive words, good words.  Positivity can bring healing to our souls.  Positivity can bring about good influence and change how we see circumstances and respond to them.  On our own, this kind of transformation is more than a personal one.  It is a spiritual one.  We need to lift our minds to Christlikeness.  We need to lift our gaze above the everyday and to the heavenly realms.

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3.1-2, NIV).

Engaging in a process of thinking positive thoughts, of choosing good thoughts, is a step in putting off our natural, sinful self.  It is a step away from the old self before you gave your life to Jesus.  It is a step towards a life of following Jesus with all that you are, including your thoughts.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;  to be made new in the attitude of your minds;  and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4.22-24, NIV).

As you pray for positive thinking, allow God to make you new in your attitude of your mind.  Let God help you as you pray.  But do pray.  And we invite you to share your personal prayer requests and comments in the section below.
