Do you want to pray for what’s happening in Israel and the Gaza Strip? Are you not sure exactly what to pray?
Let these five hopeful prayers for Israel be a help to you. Each prayer is focused on a particular aspect surrounding this war that you might want to pray about. As with any war or conflict, we want to pray for peace above all.
We want to pray for the people involved, especially the non-combatants who are being affected by this, whichever side they are on. Some are being killed, injured, or kidnapped. Tens of thousands of other civilians are being displaced from their homes on either side of the battle.
In these kinds of situations, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and throw up your hands and say, “I can’t do anything about that.” You could do that; or you could pray.
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.” For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.” For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your prosperity” ( Psalm 122.6-9, NIV).
This is not a political thing. It’s a spiritual thing. This article is simply a helpful tool so you can pray about a situation that is far away from you, but unsettling and worrisome. These prayers are meant to turn your heart and mind toward God and place that burden upon Him.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” ( Matthew 11.28-30, NIV).

Short Prayer For Israel
Dear God in heaven, I pray for the nation of Israel as they have declared war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip. I confess I don’t know all the details or why this started, but I hurt inside when I see pictures of all the innocent people on both sides being injured or killed because of the war. I pray that this ends quickly and that peace can be restored before more destruction and death happen. You know all, Lord, so I pray this in trust, through Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For The Peace Of Jerusalem
Lord God, in scripture I read in several places about praying for the peace of Jerusalem. I know it is somewhat removed from the war in the Gaza Strip, but I want to pray that there not be any violence in the city of Jerusalem.
It is a holy site for the three major world religions, so if something happened there, it would be disastrous. I pray for Your peace to surround the city and all who live and work there. Keep those who intend violence away from Jerusalem.
I wish there could be peace everywhere, Lord, but today, with all that is going on with the war, I lift this prayer for peace in Jerusalem, in the name of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer For The Injured In Israel And Gaza Strip
Father God, in any war there are going to be people who are injured because of explosions or gunfire and what happens afterwards. I want to pray to You today about the injured people in Israel and in the Gaza Strip. I pray that they can receive the medical care and attention they need so they can heal and survive.
I ask that in the midst of this war that medical facilities and hospitals not be invaded or destroyed. I pray for the doctors and nurses to be able to do their job, their calling and administer aid where needed. I ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For the Grieving In Israel And Gaza Strip
Lord God, I hesitate to put a number in this prayer, but I know there are already hundreds of people dead because of the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. That means there are already hundreds, if not thousands of people mourning the people who have died.
You are the God above all and the God of love so I pray that You surround each family, each person grieving, with Your mercy and Your comfort. They are hurting and crushed in spirit and their nationality doesn’t matter–grief hits everyone deeply. I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For The Leaders In Israel And The Gaza Strip
God, I admit I am pretty ignorant about all the political details of what’s going on now in Israel and the war in the Gaza Strip. I probably couldn’t pick out the area on a map without some help. Even so, I want to pray for the leaders on each side.
I can’t begin to understand the hatred or enmity between each side so I may well be praying for something I don’t know about fully. But I know that You are God and You know all.
I lift this prayer and ask for the leaders to seek wisdom and guidance. I pray they remember their humanity. I pray they think and pray before they act. Help them, Lord. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Final Thoughts
I don’t have any answers for you other than to pray about all of this, and to pray daily. Each daily news cycle will bring more information and visuals of what’s happening and we can get caught up in all of that. I encourage you to keep your eyes on Jesus and keep on your knees in prayer.
“Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end” Hebrews 12.2, GNT).
Keep on praying! We’d like to hear your own prayer requests as well. Will you share them in the comments section below?
