6 Faithful Prayers For Crohn’s Disease

It’s Friday night and you want to go out with friends but you have a flare-up. You miss out once again.

It’s summer and you are ready to go visit family but you are not sure if you can make the full flight.

You are sitting in the waiting room wondering if this doctor can truly help

You long for that food that you once enjoyed but your body rejects now.

Crohn’s disease affects so many areas of the patient’s and their family’s lives. You may feel discouragement or maybe even resentment that God has allowed this disease into your life.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

A couple of my loved ones have been affected by Crohn’s disease. As I watched them turn to Christ in their times of need I was encouraged. As I listened as they shared their struggles I carried their burdens with them to the cross.

As I saw them find relief and solutions after many years of struggling with doctors to find what worked for them, I was in awe of their persistence. It is out of their trust in God that I wrote these prayers.

If you or someone you love is struggling with Crohn’s disease we would love to pray for you. Please consider sharing in the comments below how we can be praying for you.

Prayer For Wisdom After Diagnosed With Crohn’s Disease Disease

Dear Father, you are all-knowing. You know me, because you created me. You know the pain and discomfort in my life and why my body is broken. I ask you today to give me wisdom.

Lord, I need wisdom on what my next steps should be for treatment. There are several options that the doctors have given me and they will all interfere in my life one way or another.

Father, some options are scarier than others and I’m not sure what to do. I pray that you give my doctors wisdom to suggest the best treatment. Give me an understanding of what would be best for me.

Father, as I make my decision help me to continue to come to you. Help me to seek after you and not simply what feels right. I want to be within your will for my life, so please lead me. Give me wisdom today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For Encouragement When Suffering From Crohn’s Disease

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you today because I know you are the creator of all things and you are worthy of all my praise.

Thank you for taking care of the biggest problem in my life by dying on the cross for my sins. Today I come to you asking that you give me encouragement because I’m feeling very discouraged.

The pain, discomfort, and embarrassment overwhelm me sometimes and leave me feeling discouraged.  God, you know I can eat healthy foods, take vitamins, get regular exercise, and yet my body still does not work as it should. This frustrates me because I feel so out of control. Encourage me by helping me remember you are in control.

Father, I need others to come alongside me. Will you please put someone in my life that extends compassion and wisdom as I struggle with discouragement because of Crohn’s disease?  Please bring someone into my life that listens well and extends love.

I pray that you bring me encouragement through your word. Please open my eyes when I read through scripture of all the blessings I have in you. Rather than dwell on this disease and how it affects my life help me to fix my eyes on you.

“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” (Psalm 105:4 ESV)

Pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For Spiritual Growth While Living With Crohn’s

God, I know you hold the world in your hands. I praise you that I am a child of God because of your grace poured out for me at the cross of Christ. Yet when I don’t feel good because of my Crohn’s disease I don’t always turn to you and depend on your strength. Help me to grow in my dependence on you.

God, help me to think deeply about the reality I have because I am your child. You have promised me physical restoration and a bodily resurrection when you come again.

“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” (1 Peter 5:10)

God, when I am in pain and discomfort from Crohn’s disease I pray that you help me to remember that I am not of this world. Help me to think about the joy I have because of being in Christ. Help me to share that hope with others that may also be in pain.

“Who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God”  (2 Corinthians 1:4 ESV)

God, help me to never take for granted everything you have given me as an opportunity to grow.

I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For This Journey With Crohn’s Disease

God, thank you for going before me and always being with me. As I travel this life with Crohn’s I pray that you use it as a constant thing that drives me back to you.  When the pain and discomfort persist, I ask that you help me to remember that there’s simply nowhere else to go. You alone give me comfort.

Father, as I journey in this life and seek answers for this disease I pray that you allow my doctors to have wisdom and a solution for this disease in my life. However, help me never put all my hope in the medical field for you alone are the good physician. Help me find comfort for today and hope beyond the grave.

Jesus thank you for walking on this earth. Your journey in this world was perfect and yet you also suffered and experience this pain. You did this for my sin, so I could be restored back to God. Through faith by grace, you have healed my soul.

God, I know that these light and momentary afflictions are nothing compared to the future glory that will be revealed (2 Cor. 4:17 ESV). So help me to journey with this in mind.

God, help me to enjoy your promises.  I rest in knowing that all broken things, even my painful gut, will be made new and whole again. I look forward to the day that my struggles with Crohn’s disease will be a distant memory.

Come, Lord Jesus, Amen.
