I wish I could come through your screen and give you a big hug. It is so hard to think about losing your mother.
But I’m glad you are turning to God through prayer during this time. I hope that these prayers help you to turn your mourning and pain into trusting God. He is a loving and sovereign God and loves when you come to Him in prayer.
When we are faced with death we are often reminded of life’s frailty. It makes us come face to face with the purpose of life and what we were created for.
As Christians, we find comfort in knowing a few of these truths. We know we were created by God.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV)
And that God created a plan for us to be saved by faith so that we can live a fulfilling life walking in those plans.
It is these truths that comfort us when the death of our mother is looking us in the face. We know that God is in control and has a plan for each of us, even our mom.
The challenging thing is when we don’t know if our mom truly has trusted that Jesus is Lord. We sometimes do not know if our mom has been saved by faith. This is an awful feeling.
It should give us the boldness to continue to speak the truth to our mom and pray that God would open her eyes. We have included prayers like that below.

Dear Heaven Father, I cry out to you today asking that you be with my mother in these last few moments of your life. You are the giver of life and sovereign over it. I ask that in these moments you give her peace. Allow her not to feel any pain but help her to rest in knowing that you are with her. Father, comfort her to not worry about the afterlife because you are her savior. Father, meet all of my mother’s needs. I love you. Amen.
Prayers For My Mother’s Soul
God, I am coming to you again asking that you open the eyes of my mother. This is a prayer I have been praying for a long time now. It has been clear that throughout her life she has rejected you and now she is coming to the end of this life.
Father, I know that you are just pouring out your wrath and judgment on those who have not repented of their sins and believed in Christ. I also know that you are patient and do not want anyone to perish.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Peter 3:9 ESV)
So I plead with you today to open her eyes to your truth. Help her to see how her life has been in rebellion against you. Please allow her to see that she must trust in you.
Even in these last moments of her life, she can turn to you in belief. Help her to have a humble heart and allow today to be the day that she repents and believes.
God, I ask that you help me to clearly present the Gospel to her. Help her to understand her need for a savior. Allow her to have a soft heart for the truths of the Gospel and accept Jesus as Lord. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayers For Dying Mother-In-Law
Dear Heavenly Father, you have given me so many amazing gifts in my life. You have given me the gift of eternal life in you through faith. You give me every breath I breathe, and you have given me gifts through different relationships.
One relationship you have allowed me to have is with my mother-in-law. She is truly a woman after your heart. She seeks you in the morning and has served out of love throughout her days.
God, you know when her last breath will be but I pray for you to help her in these last days. Help her to trust in you, to have peace about her future, and to not experience any more pain on this side of heaven.
I pray that your presence will be close to her and that she will not fear. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayers For A Friend Whose Mother Is Dying
Father, I pray for my friend whose mother is dying. You know the situation and the needs of this situation. You are good and I’m asking that you reveal yourself in a mighty way to this family.
God, I ask that you give my friend comfort during this time. I ask that she would feel you close and that she would trust in your sovereign plan.
Father, allow me to be a friend that she can come to when she is hurting or confused. Help me to point my friend back to you and your truths. Allow her to accept the death of her mother knowing you are in control.
God, I pray that you reveal yourself in a mighty way to my friend as she deals with the death of her mother. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayers For Those Caring For My Dying Mother
God, you are the great caregiver and have called us as Christians to care for others.
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:4 ESV)
My mother’s caregiver has done such an amazing job caring for my dying mother. I ask that You continue to give her strength, patience, and guidance in these last moments with my mom.
Father, be with my mother’s caregiver to help her handle the death of my mom when that moment happens. Allow her to see how you alone give peace during this time.
Father, I thank you for this caregiver and I pray that she will seek you during these last moments as she takes care of my mother in her last days. Amen.
Prayers For Your Dying Grandma
Dear Heavenly Father, I want to pray for my grandma as she is in her last few moments on this earth.
My grandma has been so important to me and has loved me so well throughout her life.
I pray that you will be with her in these last few moments. Help her to trust in you and to not have any pain or fear.
God, I ask that you would clear my grandmother’s mind enough that she would clearly see her need for you. Allow her to see her need to repent of this life in rebellion against you.
Help her to see that her works mean nothing apart from you. She can never earn her way into the right relationship with you. Religion is not enough she has to submit her life to your Lordship.
God, allow me to boldly proclaim the Gospel to her every time I see her. Help me to not get discouraged in showing her the love you have for her. Lord, be patient until she believes. I plead with you, save her.

Closing Thoughts
Losing a mother is a very difficult thing. Our moms not only raised us and cared for us like no one else ever could but she also connects with us in a way no other relationship can.
God, is so good to include us in His plans of multiplying, and being a mother is a unique task in this mission. Motherhood is never easy but in this season of your life, we hope you can look back at the work your mother did with fond memories.
