Do you ever watch movies or read books where the characters are put into witness protection and their lives get to start all over?
At first, it seems great. All the problems in the last life are gone, it’s a fresh start.
But as the story goes on you realize the difficulties involved in starting over. The hurdles they have to climb. The new relationships are just as hard as the old ones.
And yet there is something in me that just wishes that areas of my life I could just start over. Maybe it’s a day I wish I could start over or a conversation.
Sometimes I wish I could start over on broken relationships. Sometimes on my failed diets.
As Christians, we actually were given a second chance. In scripture, they speak about it as being “born again”
These prayers are going to look at different aspects of what it looks like to be born again. What it looks like when our lives start over. Not as new babies but as new believers.
If you are looking for a new start in life God has an open offer for you. Turn to Him today because life with Him is better than we ever could imagine. He doesn’t promise it will be easy but He does promise it will be good.
We would love to pray with you about your new beginnings in your life right now. Will you comment below so we can pray with you?
Short Prayer For Starting Over
God, I ask you to help me to start over. Make me a new creation.
I no longer want to be regarded by the sins that once defined me.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV)
God, thank you for not counting my mistakes, and for forgiving my past. Not because of anything I did but because Jesus died on the cross.
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV)
Thank you that through Christ I can be reconciled to you. I pray that now that you have created me to be new and have given me a new life I can share with us the truth of the Gospel.
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Prayers To Start Small While Starting Over
God, I thank you that you have allowed me to start over. You alone have given me a new start and have made me a new creation. In Scripture, there is this reference to being born again and that is exactly how I feel. This new start in Christ feels like a whole new life.
Father, I ask that you help me to grow, but give me patience as you are creating me to be more like Christ. Although I have been justified the very moment I believe that Jesus was Lord, I am still being sanctified.
This sanctification, the act of becoming more like Christ, is sometimes a slow one so help me to trust in your timing.
This process helped me to put away all of my old thoughts. Help me to grow and to know your word so that I may obey it.
God, I praise you that you chose to give me this new life. Help me to daily remember this truth.
When others see this new start in my life I ask that you help me to boldly share you.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9 ESV)
God, I pray that I am growing to be more like Christ and that you help me to remember this process can be slow. But I ask that you keep me from temptations so that my witness to the work you have done in my life can shine brightly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayers For Future Hope After Starting Over
God, I thank you that you have allowed me to start over. This is not another chance to do things my way but instead something greater. This new life you have called me to is one with a future hope.
Father, I know that it is only because of the work of Christ on the cross that I can have this new life. It is only because He took my sin and suffered and died in my place. It is through His obedience to you that I can be set free of the hold of sin on my life and look forward to the future hope of living with you for all eternity.
God, I thank you that you have promised this future and you keep your promises.
There will always be those who do not believe in you and will be in rebellion against you all of their days. For those, you have promised judgment and destruction. (2 Peter 3:7 ESV)
But God you are patient for those who do not yet know you. You were patient with me and now have given me a new life.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (1 Peter 3:9 ESV)
But for those who believe, those who you have given new life, You Jesus, have given us hope. Hope that you will not only spare us from your wrath but that you have created us righteous in the sight of God.
But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. (1 Peter 3:13 ESV)
I praise you for this hope because you have opened my eyes and saved me. You alone have given me a new start. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayers Of Praise For God Allowing A Fresh Start
Father, I praise you that you have given me new life. You have taken me out of the darkness and into the light.
for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. (Ephesians 5:8-11 ESV)
Help me to be light in this world. Allow me to have opportunities to share with others what you have done in my life. You have given me so much hope even now.
God, I ask that you help me to continue to seek what is pleasing to you. In this new start, I do not want to continue to seek after my own desires but yours.
God, thank you for never leaving me, for never forgetting about me, and for being patient with me.
Jesus, You knew me before I was even born. You knew the sin in my life and by complete rebellion of you yet you still died for my sins. You still suffered and died for me. I praise you for your steadfast love for me.
You are so good to me. Thank you for this new life. Let me never stop singing your praises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Closing Thoughts
It is sometimes easy to want a new start. We sometimes think we can even accomplish this by changing things in our lives. But ultimately God is the only one that can truly give us a new start by giving us new life.
These prayers were focused on our new life in Christ because this is the only way we can ever start anew. It is only through the work of Christ on the cross that we can be set free from our sins that has created this life we want to start over.
If you have never accepted Christ as your savior I want to encourage you to talk to someone at your church about what this means and what kind of new life Christ offers.
If you have been a believer for a while but you have not been growing and the fruit of your life still looks like your life before you knew Christ then I would challenge you to turn back to Christ. Ask Him to give you this new start, repent of your sin, and find someone in your church who can keep you accountable.
No matter where you are in your walk with Christ we want to pray with you and for you. Please comment below so we know how to pray for you today.
