Hearing a loved one was diagnosed with cancer is heart-wrenching and it can make the future seem daunting.

Lord,

Thank You for being a good and faithful God that hears our prayers. Your word tells in the book of James that the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective (James 4:16). 

I come to you now in desperation that I may be righteous before You and confess my sins so You hear my prayers. 

You are the Healer of the world and I will boldly approach Your throne. 

I pray for complete healing for my friend. I pray that You would reach down and touch them and remove the cancer from their body. 

I pray that it would be Your will for them to go into complete remission. Thank You that you secure our souls and that You are with my friend through this trial.

 Thank You that although we may face trials and tribulations of this world we know we have a future full of hope in You. 

I pray for Your comfort and peace while they process this diagnosis. I pray that the peace that passes all understanding would fill my friend right now.

I pray for emotional healing as well as physical healing and that You would protect my friends heart, mind, body, and soul.

Thank You for the technology that is available to us to find cancer cells in our bodies.

Thank you for the medical staff that You have provided for my friend and thank You that they are knowledgeable in the treatment process. 

I pray that You would use this situation to bring glory to You and grow Your kingdom.

I pray that when my friend feels anxious about this treatment plan that You would cover them in peace and love. 

In John 16: 33 it says “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” 

We know You have overcome the world. Let us remember we have peace in You. 

I pray for protection over them. That they would  not experience negative side effects from medication. 

I pray that scheduling the treatment plan and appointments will go as smoothly as possible and that You  will work all the details out.

I pray that You meet every need during the treatment process.

Lord,

Thank You for being our Great Physician. You know everything about us because about created us. 

Thank You that You have provided help through amazing doctors and nurses that are dedicated to helping the sick.

Thank You for blessing my friend with a medical team that is capable of handling such a disease as cancer.

 I pray that they will be heavily invested in my friend and their recovery process. I pray that You will work through them every step of the way.

 I pray You will bless their hands as they care for my friend. 

I pray that if they don’t know You already that through this experience You would speak to their hearts and they would wonder about You.

I pray that in appointments my friend would seek the chances to share the love of God with the doctors and nurses.

Lord,

Thank You for the loved ones in my friends life that have stepped up and helped care for them through the treatment process. 

We know this is pleasing to You because Your word says “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality” (Romans 12:13).

I pray that You would bless them in every way and meet their every need. 

I pray that You would bring them the peace that passes all understanding and that they will feel Your presence, especially in the most difficult times.

It is not easy to care for a sick loved one so I pray that through this hard time they will lean into You more than they ever have before.

I pray that they would take every opportunity to lay hands on my friend and pray for complete healing and that You would hear their hearts. 

I pray they would look to You as our Healer and trust that You have this whole situation worked out.

Lord,

I thank You for blessing me with this friend of mine. My heart weeps to  You as I learn the diagnosis they face.

I pray that You would shine through me to others and that my words and my actions would be comforting to them.

I pray that I would remind myself that peace comes from You and You alone.

I pray that I will take every opportunity to lift my friend up to You and trust that You have them in the palm of Your hand.

I pray that Your strength would come through me as I feel so weak and helpless. 

In 2 Corinthians 12:9 it says: “but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 

Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 

And this is my prayer to You:  that I would boast in my weakness and that through them You would work Your power through me. 

I pray for You to equip me and shine Your light through me during this time that can seem very dark. 

I pray this in the Name of Jesus!

Closing Thoughts

The most important thing we can do as believers is pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Prayer can change our outlook of the circumstances we are in and put focus on where our help comes from. Whether it’s your friend, brother-in-law, sister-in-law or any other family member prayer can help. 

We can rest in Christ and know that He knows every single detail of our lives. Cancer, of any kind, can produce fear in the diagnosed as well as the ones around them. 

Be encouraged and remember that you do not need to find the perfect words to say. 

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)
