At the end of the year, there tends to be more things happening, not just because of Christmas, but because it’s the last month of the calendar year for businesses and schools as well. It’s easy to get overloaded or distracted with something taking place every day or most weekends.
It’s at a time like this that it’s a good idea to pray about what you’re facing. The following prayers cover a lot of different scenarios, but I encourage you to modify any of them to suit your specific circumstance. The point of using these prayers is to turn your attention toward God and not the event, or problem, or worry.
“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” ( Isaiah 40.31, NIV).

Short Prayer For December
Dear God, I am looking at my calendar for December and I don’t see any blank spaces. I bring this whole month to You. Guide my steps and give me rest and strength for all the appointments I see, as well as anything else that will pop up. I want to end this year with joy, not with stress and grumpiness. Let Your Light shine in me, Lord. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer That December Is Better Than November
Lord God, we just finished with Thanksgiving and everything else in November and now it’s about to be December! I pray that this month is better than last month. I really cannot deal with another death in the family during the holidays or more stress at work.
Please keep things in my life on an even keel in December. I need to catch my breath, emotionally and physically. November wore me out, Lord, so I pray for a smooth, normal month at the end of the year. Please help me make it into next year. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Church’s Christmas Cantata
Lord, I lift up our church’s Christmas cantata to You. We want to glorify You in song and spoken word on that night. Help our rehearsals to go well, for there are several in December.
I pray for each singer in our choir to be healthy for this whole month so we, together, can do our very best when we present the cantata for the community and the congregation. I pray that people will know Jesus Christ in a more personal way through the songs and lyrics. I ask all of this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For Community Play In December
Dear Lord God, there is a community Christmas play that will happen in December, and I am praying to You about it. I ask that the performance go well and is well attended. I pray that people will be encouraged and uplifted by the good acting.
I want each person who attends to go away from the play glad that they are alive, realizing they are included in this community. I pray for the actors and director and all the stagehands as they prepare for this wonderful play. Keep them all healthy, safe, and alert. May this play be a blessing to all who come. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For Christmas Eve Communion
Lord, I pray for our Christmas Eve Communion service. Many of the people who come will only be in church on that night. May they feel and know the love and grace of Christ throughout the service.
As we light the candles and sing “Silent Night,” may the Holy Spirit touch each person so they will know they are valued and seen, and included in the Light of Christ. May You be glorified through it all, Lord, Amen.
Prayer For Christmas Day With Family
I get to spend Christmas day with my family, and God, and I am so thankful I can be there with them. With my schedule and responsibilities, I am not able to get away as much as I would like, so this is a special treat this year.
Thank You that the calendar fell right this year and I have a long weekend to be able to do this. I pray for safe travel for us all and for this to be a memorable time together. May Your love surround each person as we eat and talk and open presents as a family. With a grateful heart, I receive this blessing from You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For Lonely People In December
God, I don’t really like December. I am alone and it seems like the whole month is focused on being together with family or friends or co-workers. All of this “holiday joy” only reinforces how alone I am and how alone I feel.
My family lives so far away that I can’t be with them. The phone calls are fine and all, but even that reminds me that I’m not there. I pray for the other lonely people out there too, Lord, because I know I am not the only person who is in this kind of situation.
Let me find comfort in Your presence with me and the promise of Your love and grace. I just want to make it through December and not feel worse at the end of the month. Hear my plea and prayer through Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For The December Office Party
God, I pray for the office holiday party in December. I ask that everyone behave this year and we don’t have to listen to complaining and gossip all night. I almost don’t want to go, but it’s kind of expected that everyone shows up.
I will make an appearance and do my best to be friendly with everyone, but these kinds of social situations with people I work with have always made me anxious. I work with them, not socialize with them! Help me to make the best of this whole scenario. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For End-of-Semester Tests In December
Father God, I am in my first semester of college and I’m facing a lot of tests at the end of this year. December finals are going to be rough. Please help me to do my best on each test.
I pray for focus and alertness as I study. I pray for understanding and comprehension. I don’t want to just memorize stuff, Lord, I want to show what I have learned on these tests. College is different than high school and I want to excel in this new environment. Help me make it, God, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For December Graduation From College
Well, God, I finally did it! I had to do an extra semester but I am finally graduating from college! I give You massive praise and thanks for bringing me through all of this.
There is a special graduation ceremony in December and I’m hopeful that my family and friends can make it, even though it’s close to all of the usual holiday gatherings and events. However it turns out, I am happy to be graduating and ending the year on a positive note! Thank You through Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer For Family Travel In December
Lord God, I pray for each member of my family in December. We are all traveling to and from somewhere at different points this month. Some are short trips and a couple are longer and more arduous.
Help us stay safe and alert if we are driving. Help us be protected if we are flying. I just ask for all of my family to be together for Christmas and be in one place for a few days. Watch over us as we travel, Lord God. I ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For Family Finances In December
Dear God, I like to give and receive in December so I ask for concentrated wisdom so that our family’s finances are in good shape through this holiday season. I am grateful that You have guided us to make solid decisions with the money that comes in and we have a budget for December to reflect the extra giving.
Help us stick to the budget plan and also enjoy Your provision in our lives. Thank You for us being able to end this year in better financial shape than last year. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Final Thoughts
With everything that goes on in December, it’s no surprise that it is typically rated as the most stressful month of the year.
It makes sense to pray about anything and everything that is on your calendar in this final month of the year, doesn’t it? Wouldn’t it be comforting to know that God was guiding you through the maze of appointments, events, and gatherings?
“In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps” ( Proverbs 16.9, NIV).
Let these prayers open up your heart and mind to the depth and breadth of God’s love for you, and for the reality that everything in your life matters to God. Keep on praying!
