It’s Wednesday. We are glad you are thinking about praying specifically for today.
It’s the middle of the week and that means fatigue is setting in. We get it, you’ve already worked hard this week but you still have a couple more days to go before a break. Wednesdays can be tough.
We are glad you are here because even if you are a person who regularly prays, these prayers will help you focus on how to pray specifically for today.
We tried to think of different scenarios for a Wednesday but feel free to use these prayers as a jumping-off point and begin to pray for whatever might be something you experience on Wednesdays.
I hope you can use these prayers to strengthen your walk with the Lord. Dwell in his presence for a little longer than you normally do and experience his goodness, power, and love. We hope that through the Holy Spirit these prayers will give you the confidence to walk with purpose throughout your Wednesday.
If you find these prayers helpful maybe you will begin to pray specifically about each day of your life. You can find several other prayers like these for Monday, Friday, and every day of the week.
We’re excited you are here and look forward to hearing about how God works in mighty ways throughout your week as you turn to him in prayer.
Short Prayer For Wednesday
Dear Heavenly Father, it’s the middle of the work week, and although I’m feeling tired I pray that I can continue to work hard at the tasks you have before me.
I pray that when I’m bored of the routine of my life remind me that I have a greater purpose and calling in you. Help me to remember the great commission where you called all believers to your mission
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
Thank you for promising to be with me. I pray that when I am discouraged in the middle of the week that I remember your calling and your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Wednesday Morning Prayer
Lord, as I wake up from my sleep, I am aware that I need you. Today is Wednesday, the middle of the week. Even before I get out of bed, I want to dwell here in your presence.
Jesus, you demonstrated to us the importance of being in prayer with God in the morning.
And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. (Mark 1:35 ESV)
God, I notice that Jesus began his day with prayer and ended it with preaching. This prayer gave Jesus strength, purpose, and encouragement for his day. I come to you this morning seeking those things as well. Guide me to the people who need you, give me strength to share your love, and help me to experience your presence the whole day.
I pray all of these things through Jesus, the only one who can save and the perfect example, Amen
Wednesday Midday Prayer
Dear God, I pause in the middle of this Wednesday to give you thanks for a good morning. I was able to focus and get a lot of work done.
Thank you for my coworkers. These relationships are not always easy but I felt you guiding me not only in my words and actions toward them but also in my thoughts. Help me to continue to find opportunities to share who you are.
God, I want the people I work with to know you are Lord. You are not just something to believe in to so I can have a free pass to heaven. Rather you are creator and director of my life.
I want my co-workers to see that you are the source for my strength, peace, and direction. Help me to live in a way that reveals you.
As I sit down to eat my lunch this Wednesday it is a good reminder that I am officially halfway through my work week. Wednesday always seems to be tough because the mundane work gets tiresome. But there is also so much hope that you have gotten me through this far you will give me to strength to finish the week strong.
Thank you for helping me pray more regularly.
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. (Romans 12:12 ESV)
I know being with you in prayer is drawing me closer to you and aligning my thoughts more closely to yours. I’m halfway done for the week, so I pray for continued guidance through the afternoon in all I do. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Wednesday Evening Prayer
Lord God, As I get ready to drive home from work I want to thank you for getting me through this workday. I thank you for helping me to see the different situations through your word.
As I dealt with people, you helped me be patient and listen to them. Lord, I pray you continue to give me opportunities to speak about the Gospel with them. Even when they don’t want to hear I pray you give me perseverance.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9 ESV)
The day isn’t done, the kids have practice and there is midweek services at church. Lord, I pray that you give me guidance to know what I need to do, when to say no, and how to lead my family in a way that is honoring to you. I pray for your guidance for this evening, the rest of the week, and my weekend.
Thank you for giving me purpose, patients and guidance this Wednesday. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Wednesday Bedtime Prayer
God, As Wednesdays end I have hope for the strength to finish strong. I can do this, not in my own strength but through you. The relationships at work and in our evening activities can discourage me.
I long for deep friendships centered on and focused on you. It can feel so lonely walking this path when it seems everyone around me is seeking their own worldly passions and desires. Bedtime and reflecting on the day can increase that feeling of loneliness. Comfort me tonight knowing I am never alone with you.
As I prepare to go to sleep, I pray for deep rest tonight. Thank you for the promise that you have given me rest for my soul.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 ESV)
You have called me to this position at work, and have called me to be a light for you while I’m there. Sometimes the burdens of all of that feels heavy. But you are so good to remind us that in you there is rest. Help me to understand this more and rest in you.
So now, let my mind be quieted. There were many conversations and tasks that could loop through my thoughts but I surrender them all to you now as I lay my head to rest. I trust that if I need to handle anything specific in the morning that you will bring it to mind again tomorrow.
I pray all of this and trust in your love for me, this day and every day, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
Wednesday Prayer For School
Dear Lord, Wednesdays at school are a struggle. The classes, the teachers, and even the friendships I encounter all seem to drain me. Help me to find strength in you.
As I try and build relationships and new friendships I find it extra difficult this year. Some friends have moved away or are not in my class anymore. But some friends are simply just changing. God, will you help me to find friends that are good for my faith.
After two full days of school already this week I’m feeling anxious. God, I need you. I need you to be close. I need you to hold me. I need to know you are walking with me. I know the best way for me to know you are close is by reading your word.
Give me the desire to be in your word. Help me to continue to cry out to you in the middle of my week, in the middle of my day. But I pray you give me moments where I can be in your word, meditating on your truths, storing up your words in my heart.
“You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. (Deuteronomy 11:18 ESV)
So when my emotions tell me things are not right, that my lack of sleep leaves my Wednesdays in a mess, I can rest on your truths, not my feelings.
Thank you God that you hear my prayers. I am so thankful that you are with me and I trust that you are working to answer my prayers, even as I pray. Please continue to be with me this Wednesday. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Wednesday Prayer For Work
God, I have to work today, Wednesday and for that, I am thankful. You know there have been seasons in my life when I didn’t have a job and it felt like I had an endless line of interviews. Or I had a job that felt meaningless. You have now given me a job where I can find my purpose in you.
Even though I love my job, I am a sinner, working with other fallen humans. I pray especially for the relationships that I work with. That you would be at the center of our thoughts and minds. That we would not become prideful but we would work in humility as we work together.
Lord, I pray for my boss. He is kind and loves you and I’m thankful for that. Help him to continue to seek after you. Help him to admit when he is at fault and be able to lead us well.
God, I pray that you help me work as if I’m working for you. I work hard at the beginning of the week but as I feel the weekend coming close I’m tempted to slack off.
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, (Colossians 3:23 ESV)
God, please work in my heart to release my burdens and cast my cares upon you. Let me be filled with power and love, not fear. I pray you to help me to finish this Wednesday strong and I pray for a good work week. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Wednesday Prayer For Church
WooHoo! God, I love midweek church services. There is something so powerful about coming together to worship you, study your word, and be with like-minded believers. It is the highlight of my Wednesday.
Thank you for the gift of your church! When I feel exhausted after work on Wednesday I am always encouraged when I leave church after a midweek service.
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV)
Help me not just be a consumer on Wednesday nights at church but help me to encourage others to do God’s work as they finish up their work week. It’s easy to get to the end of Wednesday night or even Sunday mornings and choose to do something other than church.
Give me a deep desire for your church. Help me to love your church well. Help me to not neglect in meeting or loving or doing good. It is these things that strengthen me and your body.
Thank you for church, thank you for my church who makes a midweek service a priority so that in the slump of the week I can be refocused on you. I pray this all in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Thankful Prayer For Wednesday
It is with a grateful heart that I pray to you, Lord God. It is the middle of the week and I get the opportunity to make progress towards my goals and to achieve my dreams on this Wednesday.
I am thankful for the resources and opportunities that you have given me, both emotionally and mentally. I express my gratitude to you for the people who support me and who believe in me. This new day is filled with hope and opportunity!
I ask for your help to stay focused and motivated today. I want to make wise choices and to use my time wisely as well. And enable me to achieve my goals in a way that honors you and blesses others. Thank you for this new day! In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Closing Thoughts
Wednesday is in the middle of the week, you have the beginning half of your week behind you. Those days can carry the stress of not getting enough done, or even feeling like you could have done your tasks better. And you have the rest of the week looming overhead. The unknown is daunting.
But God created us with a desire for a rhythm. He created the world in a rhythm, we can see that as we read Genesis 1. God created humans in his image and we are like God in enjoying the rhythms of life.
These rhythms help us anticipate and persevere. On Wednesdays, this rhythm is especially important to us because we can see how God has given us enough strength to get to the middle of our week and can see his guidance for the remainder of the week.
We hope that you can continue to persevere, that these prayers gave you guidance and that you prayed to our God, who loves you!
