Please accept our condolences for the passing of your mother, whether it was in the past or recently. Know that there are resources for grief that be helpful to you if you need them.
I invite you to make use of these six hopeful prayers for a mom in heaven. Each prayer is written in a way that allows you to use it as it is, or to modify the wording to better fit your particular situation. You can also benefit from looking at caring prayers for someone who just passed away, or exploring how often should I pray.
It can bring a sense of comfort to pray to God about your mom who is now in heaven with God, fully whole and healed and rejoicing in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May this truth from Jesus also bring encouragement to you, that Jesus has prepared a place for your mother with God:
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going” (John 14.1-4, NIV).
At different times in the year, your thoughts and emotions may turn more strongly toward remembering your mother. These times are great moments to go to God in prayer and honor the good your mother did for you and gave to you in her life here with you.
As you walk along in your prayer journey, we welcome your prayer requests and comments, which you can share with us in the section at the end of this article. For now, let us move to praying!
Short Prayer For Mom In Heaven
Dear God, I want to pray to you about my mom, who is in heaven with you now. While I am glad she is out of pain and fully healed in your eternal presence now, I miss her being with me. I want to remember her today, as it was a special day for the two of us. I trust you will continue to give me the comfort and peace I need, as her absence is ever before me. Thank you that one day I will be reunited with her in heaven with you. Grant me grace for today, for the sake of your love, Lord, Amen.
Prayer For Mom In Heaven On Her Birthday
Lord God, today would have been my mom’s (birthday number) birthday and it is a bittersweet day. She so loved birthday parties, both for others and her own. She enjoyed the candles and the cake and the whole deal.
But today it will be a celebration of the impact of her life, as we honor the truth that she is with you. We’re still going to have a cake for her and blow out the candles as a way to remember her on this special day. Thank you for your grace to help us grieve her well, and also continue to live by your strength.
We’re always going to miss her, but I hope that in prayers like this, we can still know that her love is within us, even as she is with you in heaven, worshiping around the throne of God. I pray all of this in the matchless name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For Mom In Heaven On Her Wedding Anniversary
Today is going to be a bit of a challenge, God, as this will be the first wedding anniversary my dad will have since my mom died. We’re not going to make a big deal about it all, but we will gather together, both to remember her and to help him on this tender day.
We are glad that she had a saving relationship with Jesus Christ and is in heaven with you right now. That gives us all a measure of peace, even as we are feeling the pain of her tangible absence from our lives. I pray especially for my father, as he is without his lifelong partner.
Help us all to give one another special grace as we both celebrate what she meant to us on this special day, as well as grieve her passing. I hope and trust that mom is dancing around, singing praise to God right now, full of the presence of the Lord. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Mother In Heaven At Christmas
Father God, thank you for bringing us through these past several years since our mother died. Each special holiday or birthday was a tender and difficult moment for us all. Even now, a few years after she has passed on and gone to heaven to be with you, Christmas is a challenging time.
This holiday, above all the others, was when we all gathered together as a family and we still have an empty chair to remind us that she is still honored in our lives as we celebrate the birth of Christ. I pray for her, that she is healed and whole and resting in the presence of God now.
Thank you that in praying this prayer, we can remember her, honor her, and give thanks to you for her life. I lift this prayer through Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer For Mother In Heaven At Thanksgiving
Dear God, I can honestly give thanks this holiday that my mom is in heaven with you. Of course, I miss her terribly, as does the whole family, but I know that during this Thanksgiving week, each day will be a chance to say a prayer of thanks for her faithful life as a follower of Jesus.
I take comfort in the promises of scripture that she is without pain, is not mourning, and is full of the joy that comes from seeing God face-to-face, in all of God’s glory. Thank you for that hope!
I pray for all of us, that we can keep that truth before us as we cook and eat and relax together during Thanksgiving, remembering our mother well, even as we miss her and keep her love deep within us. I pray all of these things through the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For Mom In Heaven On The Anniversary Of Her Death
God, I ask for special strength today, as we remember mom on the anniversary of her death. “Death anniversary” sounds so odd as I speak it out, but we are wanting to mark this day in a special way.
May we keep in the forefront of our thoughts that she is together with you in heaven and that can give us peace and hope. May we remember the best of who she was for us all, which can give us comfort and good thoughts. And, may we accept the reality that she is gone and her memory is always with us.
Thank you for the opportunity we have to gather and remember her fondly, and be supportive of each other in our grief. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
The death of a mother is a profound loss, and it can be difficult to know how to cope with the grief. One way to find comfort is to pray for your mother in heaven.
From a Christian perspective, prayer is a powerful way to communicate with God. When we pray, we are not just talking to ourselves; we are talking to the Creator of the universe. And when we pray for our loved ones who have passed away, we are asking God to watch over them and comfort them in their new home in heaven.
There are many different ways to pray for a mother in heaven, as we’ve shown in the prayers above. You can pray for her soul, her eternal happiness, and her reunion with you one day. You can also pray for her family and friends, who are grieving her loss.
The following scripture is often heard at funerals, as it gives a word of hope for the future with Christ, after death. As you pray for your mom in heaven, let these words give you hope, that your mother is safe and without pain or suffering:
“God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21.4, ESV).
This scripture reminds us that God is a loving and compassionate Father who cares for his children. He will never forget our mothers, and he will one day reunite us with them in heaven.
When you pray for your mother in heaven, you can also ask God to give you strength and comfort during this difficult time. You can ask him to help you remember the good times you had with your mother and to help you find peace in knowing that she is in a better place.
Prayer can be a powerful source of comfort and strength when we are grieving the loss of a loved one. If you have lost your mother, I encourage you to pray for her often. Let your prayers be a way of expressing your love for her, and of asking God to watch over her and to comfort you in your grief.
Praying for a mother in heaven is a way to show our love and gratitude for her. May you be uplifted as you pray regularly!
