Are you looking for how to pray for your father in heaven? Has your dad passed away and you want to pray for him?
Please accept our condolences for the passing of your father, whether it just recently happened, or was in the past. Be aware that there are resources for grief that be helpful to you if you need them.
I invite you to make use of these six hopeful prayers for a dad in heaven. Each prayer is written in a way that allows you to use it as it is, or to modify the wording to better fit your particular situation. You can also benefit from looking at caring prayers for someone who just passed away, or exploring how often should I pray.
The following scripture is often heard at funerals, as it gives a word of hope for the future with Christ, after death. As you pray for your dad in heaven, let these words give you hope, that your father is safe and without pain or suffering:
“God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21.4, ESV).
This scripture reminds us that God is a loving and compassionate Father who cares for his children. He will never forget our fathers, and he will one day reunite us with them in heaven.
At different times in the year, your thoughts and emotions may turn more strongly toward remembering your father. These times are great moments to go to God in prayer and honor the good your father did for you and gave to you in his life here with you.
As you continue in your prayer journey, we welcome your prayer requests and comments, which you can share with us in the section at the end of this article. For now, let us move to praying for your father in heaven
Short Prayer For Dad In Heaven
Dear God, I come to you in prayer about my dad, who is in heaven with you. Although I am glad he is out of pain and fully healed in your eternal presence now, I miss his presence with me on a regular basis. I want to remember him today, as it was a special day for the two of us. I trust you will continue to give me the comfort and peace I need, as his absence is very real to me daily. Grant me grace for today, for the sake of your love, Lord, Amen.
Prayer For Father In Heaven At Christmas
Father God, thank you for bringing us through these past several years since our father died. Each special holiday or birthday was a tender and difficult moment for us all. Even now, a few years after he has passed on and gone to heaven to be with you, the Christmas holidays are a challenging time.
Christmas time was when we all gathered together as a family and enjoyed each other. We still have an empty spot to remind us that dad is still honored in our lives as we celebrate the birth of Christ. I pray for him, that he is healed and whole and resting in your glory.
I am grateful that in praying this prayer, we all can remember him, honor him, and give thanks to you for his life. I lift this prayer through Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer For Father In Heaven At Thanksgiving
Dear God, I can honestly give thanks this holiday that my dad is in heaven with you. Of course, I miss him so very much, as does the whole family. Yet, I know that during this Thanksgiving week, each day will be a chance to say a prayer of thanks for his faithful life as a follower of Jesus.
I pray for all of us, that we can keep that truth before us as we cook and eat and relax together during Thanksgiving, remembering our father well. We miss him and want to keep his love deep within us on a daily basis.
I take comfort in the promises of scripture that he is without pain, is not mourning, and is full of the joy that comes from seeing God face-to-face, in all of God’s glory. Thank you for that hope! I pray all of these things through the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For Dad In Heaven On The Anniversary Of His Death
God, I ask for special strength today, as we remember dad on the anniversary of his death. “Death anniversary” are weird words to put together, but we are wanting to mark this day in a special way.
May we remember the best of who he was for us all, which can give us comfort and good thoughts. May we keep in the forefront of our thoughts that he is together with you in heaven and that can give us peace and hope. And, may we accept the reality that he is not here, but that his memory is always with us.
Thank you for the opportunity we have to gather and remember his life fondly, and be supportive of each other in our grief. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Dad in Heaven On His Birthday
Lord God, today would have been my dad’s (birthday number) birthday and it is a bittersweet day. While he wasn’t big on the whole party and cake and candles stuff, he did enjoy getting presents and cards from everyone. Today is going to be a very different kind of day and I ask for strength to make it through.
This will be a celebration of the influence of his life, as we honor the truth that he is with you. We’re still going to have a cake for him and blow out the candles as a way to remember him on this special day. Thank you for your grace to help us grieve him well, and also continue to live by your strength.
We’re always going to miss him, but I hope that in prayers like this, we can still know that his love is within us, even as he is with you in heaven, worshiping around the throne of God. I pray all of this in the matchless name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For Dad In Heaven On His Wedding Anniversary
God, this will be the first wedding anniversary my mom will have since my dad died, so it will be a challenging time. We’re not going to make a big deal about it all, but we will gather together, both to remember him, and to help her on this tender day.
I pray especially for my mother, as she is without her lifelong partner. We are glad that he had a saving relationship with Jesus Christ and is in heaven with you right now. That gives us all a measure of peace, even as we are feeling the pain of his tangible absence from our lives.
I hope and trust that dad is dancing around, singing praise to God right now, full of the presence of the Lord. Help us all to give one another special grace as we both celebrate what he meant to us on this special day, as well as grieve his passing. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
From a Christian perspective, prayer is a powerful way to communicate with God. When we pray, we are not just talking to ourselves; we are talking to the Creator of the universe. And when we pray for our loved ones who have passed away, we are asking God to watch over them and comfort them in their new home in heaven.
The death of a father is a profound loss, and it can be difficult to know how to cope with the grief. One way to find comfort is to pray for your father in heaven.
There are many different ways to pray for your father in heaven, as we’ve shown in the prayers above. You can pray for his soul, his eternal happiness, and his reunion with you one day. You can also pray for his family and friends, who are grieving his loss.
It can bring a sense of comfort to pray to God about your dad who is now in heaven with God, fully whole and healed and rejoicing in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May this truth from Jesus also bring encouragement to you, that Jesus has prepared a place for your father with God:
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going” (John 14.1-4, NIV).
Prayer can be a powerful source of comfort and strength when we are grieving the loss of a loved one. If you have lost your father, I encourage you to pray for him often. Let your prayers be a way of expressing your love for him, and of asking God to watch over him and to comfort you in your grief.
When you pray for your father in heaven, you can also ask God to give you strength and comfort during this difficult time. You can ask him to help you remember the good times you had with your father, and to help you find peace in knowing that he is in a better place.
Praying for father in heaven is a way to show our love and gratitude for him. May you be uplifted as you pray regularly!
