7 Desperate Prayers For A Dying Sibling

7 prayers for a dying sibling pinPin

Dealing with death is often a very challenging situation to face. When it involves a family member, it can cut into us deeply, in our emotions and in our thoughts. If the person who is dying is your brother or sister, then it becomes very personal. It can be hard to figure out what to pray for.

The best thing to do is just be honest with God as you pray. Let God know how frustrated, confused, or shocked you are. Let all the swirling feelings come out as you pour your heart out to God. God will meet you at your lowest point. He has promised peace and comfort, so let those promises surround you.

“He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken” (Isaiah 25.8, NIV).

Your dying sibling can face their remaining days knowing that God has them in His loving hands. You’ll want to be encouraging and positive when you’re around them. As you deal with your pre-grief emotions, talk with a pastor or a trusted friend so you have an outlet to release what you’re feeling. And, use these prayers to connect with God in a deeper way than you may have in the past. Keep on praying!

Short Prayer For A Dying Sibling

Dear God, I am at the end of my rope. My brother is dying and I can’t do anything about it. He’s getting the hospice care he needs and all of that, but it doesn’t change the fact that he is going to be dead soon. I just am not ready for my brother to not be alive. I’m having major problems in dealing with this. I don’t want to be a burden to others in my family so I am asking for Your help. Carry me through this, Lord, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For Dying Brother

Lord God, my older brother is dying and I’ve been caught off guard with his diagnosis. He’s lived a hard life, but I didn’t expect that it would catch up to him just yet. This is a sudden change in our family situation, so I pray for all of us to deal with this challenge with Your grace.

I pray for (brother’s name) and his mental state as he faces leaving this world eternally. I pray for his wife and his children as well. They are losing a husband and a dad. I don’t want to just focus on myself, as there are several others who are impacted by this too. I ask that You give my brother comfort and peace in his last days and weeks here.

I pray for my mother and father who are facing the reality of a son who will die before they do. His dying will impact them deeply. Help them accept this. I want my brother to not suffer as he dies. Let it be a gracious passing for him, Lord. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer For Dying Sister

Father God, hear my prayer for my older sister. I just found out that she is going to die sooner than later. We had wondered about her change in weight and general appearance and now we know. She has aggressive cancer and it has spread rapidly.

I love her so much and she has nurtured and supported me in so many ways as we grew up. Now, as adults we have been so close. And now this.  She is dying and that is a firm reality. I don’t know if I have fully accepted that, but I know it’s happening.

Help me to really be there for her, emotionally and physically. I don’t want her to suffer in the midst of this, so please give her comfort through Your Spirit and with modern medicine. I don’t want this to happen, Lord, but I know You will carry her through this all. I make this prayer in the name of Jesus, the Healer, Amen.

Prayer For A Younger Sister Who Is Dying

How can my younger sister be dying before me, Lord? I’m not that much older than her, but she has been so full of life since the day she was born. And now she is facing death in a very real way. I come to you in prayer asking for Your covering over her in the coming days and weeks. She has so much on her plate right now.

I pray for her family as they absorb this shocking news. I don’t know how they are going to handle things after she passes on. But I know that You can surround them and lift them up, so please do that in a very real and tangible way, Lord.

I pray for her overall health in the midst of this. Give her the strength to face this with dignity and to die without too much pain. Let her be at peace with how You will provide for her family. I’m already missing her, Lord. I ask that you help me to be an encouragement each time I see her. I ask all of this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For A Younger Brother Who Is Dying

God in heaven, I enter into this time of prayer with a desperate plea for my younger brother. He is dying and he is going to be gone very soon. I don’t know how to deal with this, but I must turn my attention toward him, not me. He needs strength and comfort and provision.

Will You give him all of that, Lord? I feel powerless but I turn to You, the Almighty, on behalf of my brother. He needs the medical bills and hospice care to be covered fully. He needs basic strength just to make it through each torturous day as he manages the immense pain.

I can’t believe he is dying. It’s not supposed to go like this. We were supposed to enjoy decades of fun and living together. Help us all to receive this news and focus our care on him so his last days are filled with love. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer For A Sibling Dying From An Incurable Disease

Lord Jesus, why is my brother dying from stomach cancer? Why has it spread all over his body? Why is he dying, Lord? There is no cure for this? Radiation and chemo will only give him an extra month or two and so and they won’t be “quality” months. This is it.

I pray that we can get the best possible hospice care for him so he is in comfort and not in pain. It’s enough pain for him to face the fact that he is going to die. This caught him by surprise and he thought it wasn’t cancer, but just some stomach trouble. The cancer just knocked him off his feet in every way. The shock of it all has really taken his spirit out of him.  I pray for his mental frame of mind and his encouragement.

Help me to be a shoulder for him to cry on, a listening ear for him to rant if he needs to. I don’t want any of this to happen but that’s beyond my control, so I turn to You to give this burden to You. You’re going to have to carry us all through this, Lord. Hear my prayer through Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer For A Sibling Dying From A Major Injury

Lord God, I don’t even know where to start praying. My sister suffered a traumatic brain injury because of an automobile accident. We thought she initially might make some type of recovery, but there was too much damage over too much of her brain.

It’s just the machines that are keeping her alive at this point. The medical people are waiting, as they are required to do, to see if there is any possible brain function beyond the baseline, but they are not hopeful. To be honest, Lord, I’m not hopeful either. I can feel it deep in my spirit. My sister is going to die from this and she’s going to die soon.

I know she is not in any pain right now because of all the medications she’s on, but I do pray for her spirit to be comforted. Let her know, deep within her, that You have her in Your loving hands. Help her to know that we love her and are here for her, surrounding her now. I really hate this Lord because I wanted more time with my sister.

Help to move forward in the grace that You will bring her into the ultimate Healing of Your eternal embrace as she passes. I make this prayer in the name of Jesus, Amen.
