While you are praying for your son and his job search, you may also want to share this encouraging truth that the Apostle Paul wrote in scripture:

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” (Colossians 3.23-24, NIV).

Even as he is filling out applications and looking at potential workplaces, your son can know that what he is doing can bring glory to God in how he does it.

These seven helpful prayers for your son to find a job are a way to bring your concerns or worries to God.  You can alter the wording of any prayer to better suit your specific scenario.  But, do use these prayers to pray for your son. I invite you to also look at prayers for a job you really want, or prayers for a successful job interview.

We welcome your prayer requests and comments in the section at the end of this article.

Short Prayer For My Son To Find A Job

Dear God, I pray for my son and his job search.  He is finding it harder than he thought to find the kind of job he wants.  I don’t want him to get discouraged, but I also know he has to do this on his own so he can grow in his self-confidence.  Help him to stick with it, and help me to be supportive of him, however, that needs to be.  In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

I know that you have a plan for his life, and I trust that you will lead him to the right job at the right time. Please open doors of opportunity for him and help him to be successful in his job search.

I also pray that you will provide for my son’s financial needs during this time of transition from his old job, to whatever this new job will be. Please give him peace and hope as he looks for a new job, and help him to trust that you are in control. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Please give him the strength and perseverance to keep going, even when he’s not getting callbacks, or it seems like his applications are being seen. Help him to stay positive and hopeful, and to never give up on his goal of finding the best job for his schedule and needs.

I pray that you will open doors of opportunity for him soon.  I pray that you give him some sense of hope in this process. I know that you have a plan for his life, and I trust that you will work all things together for his good. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer For Son Who Is Changing Careers

Dear God in heaven, I bring my son to you in prayer, as he is considering changing careers. I know that this is a big decision, and I want to make sure that he is making the right choice.

Please give him wisdom and discernment as he prays about this decision. Help him to listen to your voice and to follow your lead. It’s going to mean not just changing jobs, but moving to a whole new job field.

I ask that you help him as he looks for a new job and a new career.  I pray that you will help him to find a career that is a good fit for his skills and interests. I know that you have a plan for his life, and I trust that you will lead him to the right place at the right time.  I ask this through Christ, Amen.

Prayer For Son Looking For His First Job

Dear Lord, my middle son is now out looking for his first job.  As he is still a teenager, he will be limited in how much he can work per week, but I hope he can find a place he will enjoy going to work.

I pray for his confidence in this process.  I am grateful that he wants to do this and is not afraid to begin the search.  I’ve told him how proud I am and that I can help him if he wants it.  But Lord, I get the sense that he wants to do this on his own.  Help me to not hover or watch over his shoulder about all of this job search.

I pray for the people he will speak with, that he be received with favor.  I pray that when he gets a job interview, he can speak clearly and with confidence.  Since he is just starting out, he doesn’t really have any specific experience, but I pray that they will see that he is earnest and personable.

Help him find this first job, Lord.  In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer For Son To Keep Looking For A Job

God, I am worried about my son.  He was laid off and now is looking for a job, but he is not finding anything.  He has applied to more than 100 places and hasn’t even gotten one callback for an interview, or even a screening call.

I can tell he is discouraged when I talk with him by phone.  I pray that he won’t give up.  I pray that he sees this process as part of the journey of faith with you.  I pray that he will be able to keep a positive mindset each day as he fills out applications and researches companies.

I ask that you will give someone in his network a nudge to give him a lead or put in a good word for him at their company.  He needs something positive to shift his feeling of momentum.  I don’t want him to get stuck, but I have read the news about how challenging it is for job-seekers out there.

Please continue to provide for my son in the midst of all of this.  In the powerful name of Jesus, Christ, Amen.

Final Thoughts

As Christians, we believe that God has a plan for our lives. This includes our careers. When we are looking for a job, we can trust that God is leading us to the right place.  When it is your son, your focus may be sharpened a bit.

There are a few things you can pass on to your son as he looks for a job in a way that is pleasing to God. First, he should pray about it.  Let him know you are praying too.  Ask God to lead him to a job that is a good fit for his skills and interests, and that will allow him to use his gifts to serve others.

Second, remind him to be honest and ethical in his job search. He doesn’t need to lie on his resume or in interviews. He can also be fair and respectful to his potential employers.

Finally, help your son remember that his new job, and his work, is a gift from God.  He can approach his job search with a positive attitude and a willingness to serve.

“Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55.6, NASB).

When we look for a job from a Christian perspective, we can trust that God will lead us to a job that is a blessing to us and to others.  Praying to God is calling upon God for what you need help with, or on behalf of your son or daughter.

  1. Please pray for my son to find work. He is a beautiful wood floor installer and finisher. His company has fell on hard times because of high interest rates. God bless

  2. My son was laid off as a software engineer and has applied to so many places with a few interviews. He met with developers from a local, family owned business right before Christmas and today meets with the CEO of the company. The company has been in business for 70 years and they are morally strong with christian values. I pray he receives a job offer from them.
