Grace is God’s undeserved favor and love. It is a gift that He gives us freely, even though we don’t deserve it. Grace is what enables us to live a godly life, even when we struggle.
Praying for grace is important in all life situations. Whether you are facing a difficult challenge or simply need help to get through the day, God’s grace is sufficient for you.
Here are a few situations in which you might want to pray for grace:
When you are facing a difficult challenge
Are you going through a difficult time in your life? Maybe you are struggling with a health condition, a financial problem, or a relationship issue. Whatever the challenge, God’s grace can give you the strength to endure and overcome it. Grace includes the meaning of helpfulness in practical and powerful ways.
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” ( 2 Corinthians 12.19, NIV).
Pray for God’s grace to help you through your difficult challenge. Ask Him to give you the strength to endure, the wisdom to make good decisions, and the faith to believe that He will work everything out for your good.
When you need help to get through the day
Even when you are not facing a major challenge, life can be difficult at times. There are days when you just feel overwhelmed and don’t have the strength to go on.
Hebrews 4.16 says, “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Whatever is your time of need, it is God’s grace that you seek and can find. This scripture says you can go to God with CONFIDENCE! A gracious God gives you the confidence to come and ask Him for grace. How utterly perfect!
Pray for God’s grace to help you get through the day. Ask Him to give you the strength to do what you need to do, the wisdom to make good decisions, and the patience to deal with whatever challenges come your way.
When you are struggling with sin
We all struggle with sin. No matter how hard we try, we always fall short of God’s perfect standards. But God’s grace is greater than our sin. He forgives us when we repent and turn to Him.
“But where sin increased, grace increased all the more” (Romans 5.20, NIV).
Pray for God’s grace to help you overcome your sin. Ask Him to forgive you when you fall short and to give you the strength to resist temptation in the future. Through Jesus Christ, God’s grace is made manifest in your life in a tangible way. Grace will get you through!
When you are dealing with difficult people
Sometimes we have to deal with difficult people in our lives. These could be family members, friends, coworkers, or even strangers. It can be difficult to be kind and patient with these people, but God’s grace can help us.
Ephesians 4.32 says, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” This verse is a real-life depiction of grace in action. What is given to you through Jesus, you are then able to extend that same grace and love to another person. Giving grace to difficult people can be a transformative experience for you and for them.
Pray for God’s grace to help you deal with difficult people. Ask Him to give you the wisdom to know how to respond, the patience to endure, and the love to forgive. You’ll be amazed at what God can do in challenging interpersonal relationships.
When you are feeling hopeless
Sometimes we feel hopeless. We may be facing a difficult situation that seems insurmountable or completely overwhelming, or we may simply be feeling discouraged about life. But God’s grace is enough to sustain us even in the darkest of times. Sometimes you just need to speak out the truth, especially when you aren’t “feeling it.” Claiming God’s grace out loud can often help your mind catch up to your faith.
“It is written: ‘I believed; therefore I have spoken.’ Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak” ( 2 Corinthians 4.13, NIV).
Pray for God’s grace to help you when you are feeling hopeless. Ask Him to give you faith to believe that He is good and that He has a good plan for your life. When you pray for grace, also be thankful for the grace that God has already given you. Remember that He loves you and that He wants to help you.
May the grace of God surround you as you pray, guide you through this day, and be with you always, come what may.

Prayer To Extend Grace To An Enemy
Dear God, I don’t like to use the word enemy but there’s a person in my life who is just that. They have spoken and acted against me in very harsh ways. It feels like we are at war. I can’t go on like this and I don’t want to dehumanize another person, but it’s hard for me to look at them as nothing but an enemy–someone who wants to hurt me.
I come to You today asking for help in extending grace to my enemy. I have been struggling to forgive them, but I know that I need to do so in order to heal. I don’t want to be tethered to them forever. I don’t want to keep on being angry at them. It’s not good for my mental or spiritual health.
Give me the grace to love them and to pray for them. Help me to show them the love of Christ. I don’t know what that will look like, but I am asking You to show the way of grace in this overwhelming situation. I can’t do this on my own and I don’t want to. Help me, Lord. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” ( John 1.14, 16-17, NIV).
Prayer For Financial Grace Over A Debt
Dear God, I am asking for financial grace. I am struggling with a debt, and I need Your help to get out of it. I know I don’t deserve grace in this matter, but I throw myself upon your mercy. I ask for favor with the person I owe this money to. I pray that he will forgive my debt, that he will be gracious about my situation.
Give me the wisdom to make good financial decisions and the discipline to stick to a budget. Help me to find ways to increase my income and to reduce my expenses, so that I can at least pay what I can toward this debt. I’m hoping that if I can pay this guy something, he will forgive the rest. That’s what I need.
I trust that You will provide for me, and I am grateful for Your grace. I humbly pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer To Receive Grace From A Friend
Lord God, I come to You today asking for a proper perspective of myself. I am struggling with something, and I need Your help. My good friend was hurt by my actions and I thought I had totally destroyed our friendship.
But after a couple of weeks, she came to me forgave me, and extended grace to me. I was so stunned that I couldn’t even respond at the moment. I don’t deserve her forgiveness because I really messed up but she gave it to me anyway.
God, I don’t know what to do with the grace she has given to me. I ask that You forgive me for my mistakes and help me to grow into this forgiveness. Help me to truly receive this amazing gift of grace from my friend. By Your Spirit, teach me so I can learn more of Your grace. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

In the powerful name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.
Prayer To Give Grace After A Betrayal
God, I am so upset I don’t know what to do but cry out to You. I have been betrayed by my best friend and I am utterly empty. I didn’t see it coming and I have no idea what to do. I know I’m hurt and angry.
I feel by Your Spirit that what I’m saying and feeling You already know. You were betrayed so long ago by your friends and disciples. They all abandoned You. You know what I’m feeling. You know what thoughts are racing through my head right now. I plead with You to show me what to do.
I know I need to give grace to this person, but at this moment I cannot even think of that. I don’t want to see him or talk to him. I also know I can’t stay this furious forever. Final Thoughts
I encourage you to make use of any of these 11 open prayers for grace. And when you pray, be specific about what you need. Ask God for specific ways in which He can help you.
For example, you could pray: “God, give me the grace to endure this difficult situation,” or “God, give me the grace to deal with this difficult person with patience and love.” You may be at a point where you cry out, “God, give me the grace to have faith in You even when I am feeling hopeless.” You may even want to sing about grace.
Whatever you are facing and whatever you are feeling, remember that God loves you and wants to help you. He is always there for you, and He is always willing to give you grace. I’ve heard it said that grace is getting what you do not deserve, or unmerited favor. This means that you recognize that you need God’s grace and that you cannot live a godly life without it.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2.8-9, ESV).
As you pray the prayers, you can alter the wording to fit what you’re feeling, or what situation you’re facing. You might also benefit from looking at prayers for accepting God’s will, or prayers for a good day. We’d love to hear from you about your prayer journey with God!
